    I have been working at Schwan's full-time

    Pros

Route sales representatives are given a decent amount of autonomy, getting paid to drive, discount on food from Schwan's, good team, commission

    Cons

The company is starting to make moves which may limit autonomy, long hours, commission, customer complaints go through call center instead of RSRs creating added bureaucracy

    I worked at Schwan's full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

You get to know a lot of people and make a lot of friends with your customers, and you're not stuck in an office all day

    Cons

Long hours, long hours, long hours, wages not commensurate with the work

    Advice to Management

You get what you pay for when it comes to sales reps. Want to attract professional sales reps? Pay professional sales rep wages. Want to attract guys who don't shower and come into work (and people's homes) disheveled? Keep paying what you're paying now.

Compensation and flexibility are good. Great projects to work on. Culture has made great improvement and is an area of focus.

    I worked at Schwan's full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The food is great but pricey, the customers are amazing and the pay was ok. I love driving, great sales experience. Getting paid to talk about food was right up my alley.

    Cons

No route changes done-a person could die, leave the country or live there seasonally but you are still expected to stop by their house!!
If you're in a rural area (or one far from where you operate), don't expect any backup by Schwans or possibly a tow truck or law enforcement.
You can build a great in town route and be told you're doing a great job then they can give it to the newest guy there and send you out of town with a pay cut, on overnights where there's no phone service. Then if you get externally sexually harassed (in someone's house) they do absolutely nothing!!
Very difficult for work/life balance, not sure how people with kids can do it.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees, make changes the RSR requests and get over the insane delivery fee idea. Why punish a long term customer because they didn't order ahead or forgot? Get proper mechanics/emergency backup so RSR's aren't stranded on the road for 6 hours. HHC/mechanical failures hurt everyone's paycheck and leaves customers dissatisfied.

    I worked at Schwan's full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Almost 40% discount of food, not confined to office.

    Cons

Upper management sends down the rules, yet the local management has a choice to enforce them or not. They're usually only enforced if local management has a personal issue with drivers. I say drivers because Schwan's is no longer wanting sales reps

    Advice to Management

Stop bragging about how home service is turning around and how much more profit you're making. Schwan's laid off almost 30% of its workforce in 2016 and sold all of their trucks. That is where profit comes from. Visit local depots more often and unexpectedly, your planned visits gives you a false look at the depot.
