I have been working at Schwan's full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The Warehouse (Freezer) is a nice place to work in the summer.
    40 hours a week.
    Nice Management

    Cons

No job advancement. I have been with the company 15 years and have applied 3 times to move around within the company and have been denied each time.
The Company just did a revamp in 2016/2017 and cut a bunch of positions so you are either low on the totem pole now or you are up high. There is no middle ground anymore.

A lot of work to get done in the Warehouse with limited team members.

Warehouses got downsized to 1 or 2 employees at most depots so it is hard to get any time off and you pretty much work yourself sick.

    Advice to Management

You always say how the warehouse is the most important part of the company. Yet you pay your warehouse poorly. You staff the warehouse poorly. Also when it comes to paying you are making your Senior MH's do the job of the old Warehouse Manager position yet you are paying them 10-15k less a year.

You should also be looking at your loyal veteran employees and helping them move up and around positions within the company to better themselves and help better the company.

    Pros

You get to know a lot of people and make a lot of friends with your customers, and you're not stuck in an office all day

    Cons

Long hours, long hours, long hours, wages not commensurate with the work

    Advice to Management

You get what you pay for when it comes to sales reps. Want to attract professional sales reps? Pay professional sales rep wages. Want to attract guys who don't shower and come into work (and people's homes) disheveled? Keep paying what you're paying now.

    Advice to Management

    Have a more realistic budget

    I worked at Schwan's full-time

    Pros

You are out in a truck by yourself.
You meet alot of nice people.

REQUIRED to work late, regardless if you can get you route done earlier or not.

    Advice to Management

Quit changing stuff and raising prices.

I have been working at Schwan's full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

You have some control over how you run your route. So it's nice having that control and kind of "owning your own business".

    Cons

Right now it is a flat rate and if you get put on longer routes with more customers you do more work than co-workers who are getting paid the same flat rate. It's basically communism.

    Advice to Management

Please do a better job of informing your new hires about the amount of work the job actually takes. Put them on the hardest routes first so they have a more realistic idea of what the job actually entails.

    I worked at Schwan's full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Freedom and meeting new people, if your social, you will love it...also not sure about NY but in IA where I had a route, my customers gave me Xmas cards with cash and a hug...nice rewards.

    Cons

Hours, 11-13 hours a day, jumping in and out of truck constantly and inclement weather can suck...need to maintain 1000$ a day sales to keep your job, may be more by now 10yrs later...and commission can be brutal at 11% on the Dollar...single person job really...family time....well....

    Advice to Management

Be realistic with your expectations from your drivers...and you may earn their respect, push'um to much and you will be training them forever...you know, new drivers.
