Technical Account Manager

Being a woman in tech, I only recently started advocating for myself at work about advancement opportunities. Because of this I wanted to ask this question to my male counterparts. When you have 1:1's with your direct reports and talk about career growth / aspirations what is your managers’ response typically? I’d like to gauge how my experience (negative) differs from others. For instance are you met with blockades, enthusiasm, dread, etc?

    Pros

nice office building; people are friendly (below manager level). Best suited for males (not a problem - just an observation).

    Cons

Sales driven company. Whatever is promised to the customer must be delivered!

    Room for Improvement

    Pros

1.) Flexible work schedule 2.) Free soda and snacks plus frequent catering 3.) Nice office space

    Cons

1.) Poor communication: top-down and cross-departmental communication is quite lacking. Work and decisions are very much completed in silos which negatively impacts the organization as a whole and leads to confusion among the employees. It is not uncommon for employees to find out they have new positions and new managers by reading a company-wide email. 2.) Weak leadership: could very much benefit from management training and a more selective recruiting process (lots of executive and mid-level management turnover within the past few years) 3.) Gender inequality/little diversity: no women on the leadership team and furthermore the ratio of females to males in any type of management role is embarrassing (less than a handful of women managers in a 300+ international employee base with the majority of those being within the HR department) 4.) Growing pains: frequent (and poorly communicated) re-orgs lead to a weak structure and instability of job roles and teams 5.) Corporate culture: There used to be monthly corporate events that built camaraderie and team cohesion but those have long been phased out. Corporate culture has quickly turned negative and toxic. 6.) HR is not a practical solution to employee issues - do not share anything with the HR department that you would not want shared with the rest of the company. Matters spoken in confidence are known to be shared along with their source (on more than one occasion).

    A Poorly Managed Company

    Jan 23, 2019 - Account Executive

    Business Outlook

    Pros

CEO is brilliant Flexible work environment

    Cons

The product is antiquated and extremely difficult to sell. There are lower cost, “cloud native” alternatives that deliver stronger results for customers. Leadership allows territorial politics and widespread infighting to continue. There is really poor middle management in sales and engineering, and a lot of unprofessionalism at company events.

    A great place to work

    Pros

Truly some of the best people I've worked with - dedicated, fun, open and all trying to do the right thing for the right reasons. All companies have their challenges but the people here really make it an awesome place to work.

    Cons

We're a small company so if you like a lot of process and procedures then this probably isn't the right place for you.

    Dramatic Declining Work Environment

Mar 15, 2018 - Anonymous Employee in Reston, VA

    Pros

    • Free soda, candy, snacks, and frequent catering • Flexible work schedule This place used to be great. When I first started at ScienceLogic, I loved the culture, people, and work. Over time though, things started to drastically decline as the company grew and started loosing key individuals that made it great and began replacing them with D-list individuals, managers, and executives.

    Cons

    • Horrible communication from the top down. Huge lack of transparency that leaves employees feeling like there is lack of direction. • Key decisions that impact entire departments are never openly discussed and feedback is never thoughtfully considered. The lack of transparency is appalling, especially when employees share their concerns and unhappiness with these decisions. No clear vision, goals, or mission across departments to help teams throughout the company work together. Everyone is working in their own silos toward unclear goals. • HR department wants to appear concerned and want your feedback, but once you give it it will either get shared internally (not confidential) or fall to deaf ears. It's also encouraged for employees to write overly-optimistic reviews to combat these honest reviews. • Aspirational values do not reflect the negative corporate culture. • Bring back the culture. There used to be fun, monthly events that brought departments together. There is no thoughtful planning or even excitement about the sparse current corporate events.

Great Growth Opportunity with a Culturally Diverse Environment

Jan 29, 2015 - Anonymous Employee in Reston, VA

    Pros

ScienceLogic is a growing company with lots of career development and earning potential. Being that we are under 200 employees, you have the opportunity to closely work with multiple departments and branch out from typical job roles. Lots of corporate culture. Always something fun going on in the office to celebrate successes or just to have fun. Being a part of a growing and successful environment can be really fun. If you are looking to succeed, and willing to work hard, ScienceLogic will provide you that opportunity.

    Cons

Growing fast can create change that's chaotic and hard to keep up with. This means you have to be self motivated, organized and on top of things. This is not a challenge that everyone can handle. Fast growth also means putting in a lot of extra hours to keep up with the work load. Okay for some, not okay for others. We work hard but we play hard. Lots of company events and perks to boost motivation and moral.
