I worked at Scientific Drilling full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The money is very good and the people in the field are very good to work with for the most part.

    Cons

Top management is out of touch with the hands in the field. When every thing went corporate,
    every thing went down hill.

    Advice to Management

Support your hands and educate your employees that work in the field, for they are the backbone of the business.

    Pros

Enjoyed the people and the challenges

    Cons

Management leads by intimidation and favoritism "good 'ole boys network".

    Advice to Management

People are the most important resource and should be treated with respect.

    Pros

    Cons

    Salary
    Lack of raise
    Oil industry
    Poor management choices
    Engineers on power trips

    Advice to Management

Company was not bad at all, other than salary, in the beginning. As company began struggling everything went down hill from there.

Don't put the wrong people in charge of a laboratory, especially when they don't even know whats going on in there like engineers for example.

Don't expect employees to do the work of 4 people without a raise in an already dying company.

    Pros

Provides a relatively relaxed work environment.

    Cons

The company is not diverse in its service capabilities. Therefore it does not react well to market fluctuations or recessions.

    Pros

Health Insurance is the only good thing.

    Cons

Treated like lower class citizen. Very low pay. Company makes a ton of money but still pays such low wages! No growth opportunities.

    Advice to Management

    Pay people what they deserve

I worked at Scientific Drilling full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The benefits were good, and co-workers were awesome. I gained a tremendous amount of knowledge of what NOT to do based on mistakes this company made.

    Cons

    Very, very political environment.

Zero flexibility. Don't even think about being even 5 minutes late, even if you are a salaried employee.

If you are someone that likes to think outside the box, or come up with creative solutions to problems, this is not the place for you.

    Advice to Management

Treat people like people. Understand that flexibility is sometimes necessary and is not a bad thing.

I have been working at Scientific Drilling (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good technology, when working. Caveat Emptor. Sometimes it isn't. Ops makes failures appear to be successes. Flashy Marketing, but products and technology unequally spread and poorly supported. Corporate putting out major fires with customers consistently. Company makes a great deal of money, but then most reluctant to share - Field Ops paid well, in fear of loss to competition. Pay equity across business is embarrassingly out of balance.

    Cons

Board is clueless to real issues in company. New talent being brought in at top is weak. Legacy employees are protected by one another and cemented in place with no means to determine their value added. There is constant fight and conflict as company is split between Headquarters and Management team in Hosuton and claims of Headquarters in Santa Barbara/ Paso Robles as shown above. Management unable to merge the companies or the culture.
Management team appears to be preening the company for sale before the next cycle in the industry that may be a very good thing.
Ask about how raises are determined.
Ask about career path. Ask for examples showing advancement.allegedly in
    Ask about revenue per employee.
Ask about numbers of voluntary and involuntary terminations.
Ask about whether training and performance guarantees promotions or growth.
Ask about how long operational field managers district and regional have been in same jobs.
Ask about how long the performance review system has been in place... and what results come from it.

    Advice to Management

The culture is more go along get along rather than challenge and improve. One might find many employees with long tenure who never raise a question.
C-Suite must get to field level and listen, variance between regional and district operations is astonishing.
When have you completed a first quality employee survey? Why?
Do you really have Mission Vision and Values or are they simply wall posters?
How is performance management tied to pay at the levels where work for the customer really happens?
What are you doing about pay equity?
    What about diversity?

    Current Employee - Anonymous Employee

    Pros

There are opportunities for growth and advancement if you're in for the long haul.

    Cons

HR/management consistently overlooks or protects the behavior of bullies in lower management and seems blind to the hostile work environment this sustains. Too much overtime is a constant drain. Management seems to set unreasonable/unsustainable goals.

I'm too embarrassed to suggest my friends work here.
