    Pros

There is good morale among employees.

    Cons

Management is in Canada and has a poor sense of direction

    Advice to Management

Place directors in other offices. Directors in Canada are out-of-touch because of logistics.

    Pros

For the most part, relaxed work environment compared to other banks. Teams are generally lean so opportunity to get broad exposure on transactions.

    Cons

Lack of structured personal development opportunities. Few similar-aged employees. Scotia feels "cheap" in several ways compared to competitors.

I worked at Scotiabank full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

A fantastic traditional internal culture embodied in the people, but which is currently under tremendous change as part of a new Corporate Philosophy. Pay is about mid market in Canada and below Industry Standard in the US. Benefits are being reduced with more of the costs being borne by the employee in Canada. In the US, it's still pretty good, but not as good as it was a few years ago.

    Cons

Very little communication about how all of the numerous and very recent and also VERY hurried "departures", from the most senior on down, coupled with other changes contribute to the "Strategy" that's been presented.

Alot of uncertainty from within. Huge change always brings that, but more effective communication would mitigate some of that for the employee.

    Advice to Management

Perhaps devote some effort into more timely and informative messages on why all of the changes in key staffing.

Excellent company to work for. Great benefits, great leadership, so many different departments/areas of work to move across the group.

    Cons

Your potential and success somewhat depends on your supervisors ability to lead the team.
