    Pros

Good people with a generally laidback work environment. They have pension if you work more than 5 years which is rare.

I worked at Scripps Institution of Oceanography full-time

    Pros

Good collaborative working environment. It is a fun and exciting location. The work is demanding and there is a lot of variety.

    Cons

Funding is limited and subject to budget constraints. Expectations are very high. PHDs are the boss.

    Advice to Management

Listen to the support staff, including technicians. The goals need to be kept in line with reality.

    Negative Outlook

I have been working at Scripps Institution of Oceanography full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Attentive time off vessel, in the heart of San Diego. Great crew to work with, and mellow working environment because the ship is in transition of being decommissioned.

    Cons

The downside to any company in transition is that my employment here is temporary, and I will be released with in a couple of months.

    Positive Outlook

I have been working at Scripps Institution of Oceanography

    Pros

High concentration of "big shots" faculty in marine sciences facilitates collaboration. Unparalleled location directly at the shores of la jolla with access to multifunctional pier. Many events to provide opportunities to teach, do outreach and individual development Very friendly work environment and support

    Cons

Location a bit far off the main ucsd campus can impair collaboration and participating in bigger UC events Parking situation is horrible and no free parking for faculty or postdocs at all No food (court) in close distance and a close-by privately owned cafe closes every day at 3pm

    Advice to Management

Parking for postdocs and visiting scholars should be free or at least subsidized A cafe with affordable food and good coffee and snacks that is open at least until 6-7pm is needed
