I worked at Scripted full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Determining what makes good writing good in objective terms is an incredibly hard problem, and Scripted managed to collect an amazing group of folks to tackle it.

    Cons

As a startup, it took Scripted awhile to find its footing/product market fit.

I have been working at Scripted

    Pros

Friendly, flexible, fun, and none of the negative F words. Scripted has a strong vision for how freelance writing marketplaces should work and they're miles ahead of the competition. They have a long way to go, but it's a company you can believe in.

    Cons

Scripted went through a big re-org early this year. The change clearly forced the company off a bad path onto something with a much brighter future, but it was clearly a jarring shift.

    I worked at Scripted

    Pros

Well, it's better than working for a content mill, I guess.

    Cons

Lack of work available, unfair hiring practices, fickle editors.

    I worked at Scripted

    Pros

Great way to learn how to freelance. Can be a confidence boost to help you get into the full time writing game.

    Cons

Very rarely any work. You can usually pick up one or two gigs, but there is very rarely enough to make a living. The work takes a long time for very little pay.

I have been working at Scripted for less than a year

    Pros

It pays more than some of the other mills when there is work available. You get email alerts when something in your specialty is posted. You can message the clients if you have questions. You get a kill fee if rejected by the client if the editor lets your work through.

    Cons

Work isn't often available. Editors, while some are Okay, are apparently not specialists. As a writer in the Medical and General Health specialties, often editors want to correct me on terminology, and have no understanding on the subject matter. They have a new rating system. It is terrible, and doesn't reflect anything accurately. If you disagree with an editor, they give you poor scoring, even if you are right. Management does not have the writer's backs, aside from the 50% kill fee. The help system is sparse, and if you ask a question you are given half answers. The amount they charge to the client vs. what the writer gets not only isn't transparent but pretty unfair. From what I understand, writers get about $28 for an article the client pays $99 for on the open marketplace. The payment system is only through a 3rd party direct deposit.

    I worked at Scripted

    Pros

The free food and location are quite nice. The office area is an open plan and great, which makes it a good environment. The people there are nice.

    Cons

As a copyeditor, you're a contracted worker and they switched the payment system, so you're paid by the piece as opposed to hourly. They don't treat copyeditors as part of the "team".

I have been working at Scripted for more than a year

    Pros

The pay at Scripted is much better than at most content writing services, and they have a consistent slate of work. There's a good variety of jobs, too.

    Cons

Getting help from the support staff isn't easy. The help button isn't exactly prominent and the response time is slow, which means that time ticks away on an article even if there's a problem. That said, the help received has always been pleasant and resolutions feel fair.

I have been working at Scripted for more than a year

    Pros

Pay is decent, work is interesting, clients are great and generally great to work with.

    Cons

Baffling turn of events. After 2 years, 400+ articles and 99% approval rating, one guy decided I'm not worthy. Zero explanation. Literally out of the blue. No recourse.
