    I worked at Scynexis full-time

    Pros

Company was founded by group of employees after R-P layoff. Great esprit de corps and scientific capability.

    Cons

Spinoff of drug development function radically reduced the size of the company. Now a virtual pharma company developing an anti-fungal treatment.

I worked at Scynexis as an intern (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The team was small but very enthusiastic and I have learnt so much by working with them. The company atmosphere was really friendly.

    Cons

Truly speaking, I do not see any cons for the position I hold during my year at SCYNEXIS,Inc. Maybe the fact that work slow down around summer time but that is about it.

    Pros

Company has a strong culture for family and safety. There was a strong relationship with customers.

    Cons

There has been a lot of cultural and managerial changes over the last 5 years. The company has recently become virtual.

    Pros

Like anyplace if you have a good manager this is a great place to work but the opportunities for advancement are limited. Really like Dr. Ribeill & his vision & commitment to employees

    Cons

    IT infrastructure REALLY needs upgrading

I worked at Scynexis full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The people I shared time working alongside were awesome and many great friendships were forged. At their best, we inspired one another and brought out the best in each other.

    Cons

Entrenched and extreme office politics and lack of personal integrity among the few co-workers and leadership made the entire experience working there one to be suffered through and endured instead of embraced.

    Advice to Management

Demonstrate loyalty to employees and be honest with them. Lack of integrity, vision, and drifting values/behavior have cost Scynexis dearly - I don't see the company surviving or thriving if the culture created by these things is allowed to persist. But again, the leadership is going to take their money and run...

I have been working at Scynexis full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good work-life balance. Smart and talented team members. High quality work. Laid back culture and safety conscience work environment from the top down.

    Cons

Not much room for career development. Management doesn't always support the researchers.

    Advice to Management

It would be nice to have managers who actually cared about their workers career growth and development.

I worked at Scynexis full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Lot's of very knowledgeable employees.
    Business model is good.
    Big Pharma mentality.

    Cons

Top heavy in management, for a company with 120 employees there are over a dozen Directors.
Directors don't generate income directly, only consume it. Over 20% of employees are manager or higher, need more people who can generate income.
No interest in BS/MS employees, they will tell you they are but there actions say otherwise.

    Advice to Management

Improve moral. You can't manage by sitting in an office. Get of to find out what the employees really feel.

    Pros

Scynexis is a young company filled with upstart scientists with something to prove to the pharmaceutical industry. Although they are as reserved as most Europeans are, the management are quite friendly and the atmosphere is very relaxed. Salaries are quite competative for the industry and North Carolina.

Scynexis spreads its work over two areas: research with a large pharma partnership, and contract chemicals. This allows the company to make a profit (as long as larger companies keep ordering custom chemicals) while still doing research on their own intellectual property.

Scynexis is located centrally between Raleigh and Durham in the beautiful area of Research Triangle Park.

    Cons

Obtaining a permanent position with Scynexis is extremely difficult. The company "employs" contract workers (with no benefits) for most non-scientific positions and many sub-PhD scientific positions. The pay-rate at Scynexis for contractors is far below the national average for the industry. Unless you have a PhD, you should not expect to find a permanent position with Scynexiss.

Scynexis hampers its scientists with overbearing safety protocols which can make even the simplest tasks time-consuming and aggravating. However this can be explained by numerous, very minor mishaps in their labs over the years. Many of the researchers are young and not as familiar with the substances they work with and therefore do not treat them with the respect they deserve. As a rule of the industry: accidents will happen, but with experience comes the ability to do the work safely.

    Advice to Management

Scynexis management needs to get over it's aversion to the masters and bachelors degrees.
