I have been working at SeaChange full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The high management is fast moving into restructuring the company to get fit for MSV market, and this putting Seachange in a real competitive position with OTT software solution.
Innovative and fast moving company the is re-inventing themselves with people that are doing extra miles to achieve their goals.
Empowering employees to make the company moving forward.

    Cons

Suffering from legacy time and old management (just need to educate the market again to solve it).

    Advice to Management

Keep moving forward in this restructuring effort.
Focussing on Cloud solution should be one of the main focus, in parallel with the App Client effort.
Having different solution able to be delivered without dependency (best example is having App Client alone).

I have been working at SeaChange full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    *Excellent work/life balance
    *Free coffee/soda/carbonated water
    *Excellent and inexpensive cafeteria
*Allows working from home once you're established
    *Products are innovative and industry-leading
*Previous management problems are being addressed, the layoffs have stopped, and hiring of new employees is back on.

    Cons

*Products are complicated and difficult to support
*Morale ~was~ bad, but is improving under new corporate leadership
*Because of prior corrupt upper management, finances are somewhat tight, and opening pay rates for new employees might be lower than hoped.
*The board of directors and some of the investors (cutthroat capital investment firms) are at odds in the press. Investors want to gut the company and sell for cash, and management wants to return to profitability and growth.

    Advice to Management

Please return us to profitability and growth!

I worked at SeaChange full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Company is small enough that you can meet with most of the staff "face to face" if needed.

    Cons

SeaChange saw it's best days when Video on Demand was new and rare. Most of the cable customers now insist on owning any software used while they offer content to their end users. Cord cutting is seriously effecting the budget for vendors.

    Advice to Management

In order to become "cutting edge" you must hire recent graduates and pay them better than average salaries. Anything else will only get you average to less than average employees. It is always good to retain those employees that question everything about your business since those "YES men & women" will continue to agree with the status quo for the entire ride towards becoming obsolete since "YES people" will never challenge the popular opinions.

    Pros

Good, helpful, intelligent people. Great benefits. Competitive salaries.

    Cons

Senior Management did not seek recommendations from below. Not many new revenue streams. Not current with latest technologies and processes.

    Advice to Management

Perform solid market analysis to see what the majority of customers would purchase.

    Pros

Ft. Washington management is very good
    Salaries are very good

    Cons

Company layoffs have compromised product and project completion
Corporate is making very bad decisions, putting the company into even more financial distress

    Advice to Management

Stop hiring incompetent SVPs and VPs in Acton, read up on their history - most new VPs failed at prior positions and this information is readily available to everyone

    Pros

You can work independently. You are responsible for your own success.

    Cons

Declining revenue means layoffs and cost cutting.

    Advice to Management

The recent restructuring is a good way to keep profitable. Need to expand to new markets or merge with a company in other markets. Need to stream line redundant products without burning customers. Need to revamp professional services to focus on performance with metrics and incentives.

    Pros

Best work colleagues and some of the smartest hard working people I've ever known. Managers were flexible and understanding and got the most out of people.

    Cons

New product management team did nothing to fix quality. Product management should have driven engineering.

Board hired a Fake CEO and allowed him to buy time line labs. Where is the investigation

Leadership, stop blaming the hardworking employees who want to see the company succeed and who also work very hard to keep the doors open.

PRODUCT PRODUCT PRODUCT installation and supportability are difficult when you sling a product out because of a poor product management team not closely staying in step with engineering. Stop pointing fingers and work together.

There's too much work on the plates of many good employees and I hear more were just Recently Laid off.

    Advice to Management

You have made some very poor decision with your hirings over the past 3 years. GM that lasted 1 year CEO that lasted 1 year. Stop getting rid of your senior folks who were dedicated and true to Seachange and start listening to them instead. Revamp the entire board of directors would be a start. Much of this down fall is due to them

Go private as there is still hope because there is still a need for what you provide

    Pros

Commute to work, Nice people, state of the art facility, in house gym with showers

    Cons

More layoffs, it appears that they happen ever 3 months, Insurance plan was changed - now must pay high deductible. Most people who remain wonder if they will be laid off in the next few months.

    Advice to Management

Not much can be said too late to give advice to management. This company appears to have no chance to succeed, I would recommend cutting high cost senior management positions and fire the people on the board who continue to collect a nice quarterly fee for running the company into the ground..... maybe the pending lawsuit will help wipe clean mess that the company is in.
