I worked at Seaboard Marine full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

They offer excellent benefits. There are many great people who have been working for the company for years.

    Cons

Work/Life Balance is horrible. Upper Management has no management skills, literally. Your voice is never heard and never try to speak up because it will be the end of your career. Oh, yes limit the times you stand to go to the bathroom they will count it. Do not speak to other unless it is work related, you be called upon and spied on by snitches. You will be judged by who you decide to go to lunch with. The stress level working in this department are beyond withstanding not by the work load but the ludicrous micromanagement mentality. Even though you are a salary employee sometimes working well over 50 hours a week you are required to report to you direct manager once you have arrived and when you are leaving, that is daily.

    Advice to Management

Start to consider the voices from the bottom up you may learn a lot and people will be much happier.

I have been working at Seaboard Marine full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Company provides good service to multiple markets and customer satisfaction is usually very high. They command a premium rate to deliver a premium service.

    Cons

Management does a very poor job in communicating vision and/or strategy and instead just barks at employees whenever they are asked questions. Very unprofessional working environment that does not value employee contributions nor efforts.

    Advice to Management

Stop the backstabbing culture that exists and treat people with respect and dignity. HR should bring in external auditors/consultants to assess if what made this company what it is today will ultimately kill it. That is my prediction.

I worked at Seaboard Marine full-time

    Pros

Benefits are pretty decent if you can put up with the rest of the nonsense. Bonuses I didn't really consider a bonus since the salaries are about the worst in the industry and felt you were only getting compensated what you were due all year long but had to wait until December to receive.

    Cons

Badly managed, mgmt is poorly educated so there's a lot of jealousy and retribution (manipulation of performance reviews - you will never receive a great review so they can nickel and dime you to death). Great degree of lack of communication and M.O. changed every other day which made it extremely difficult to function.

    Advice to Management

Hire qualified management and employees. Communication is free, you should utilize it to benefit the company, employees and customers and it'll serve all well.

I worked at Seaboard Marine full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    *Benefits
    *Family Environment
*Work with struggling employees to improve performance
    *Stability

    Cons

There is the inner circle, and then there is everyone else, Unless you have 25+ years under your belt, you are "everyone else" and will be treated as such.

    Advice to Management

Welcome new employees. Its great that you appreciate your older employees but how will you keep that environment going if new employees feel like outsiders to your club.

    Pros

I haven't found any yet. Benefits are offered from the date you start but are paid by the employee.

    Cons

Management is very closed minded and is offended by suggestion on how to improve the workflow. Lack of cross training leads to disaster when someone is on vacation. Human Resources only protects management, not employees. It would be a great company to work for if they took out the garbage.

    Advice to Management

Extensive training in how to treat employees with respect. Lack of professionalism when speaking to clients. Clients keep the company above water, and rude, unprofessional employees jeopardize that.

I have been working at Seaboard Marine full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Benefits from day one. Something you don't see in most big companies.

    Cons

This company is run like a banana republic. Only those who are in the innner circle or family members of management will get good reviews and promotions. Also once management wants you gone, they will make your life a living hell, so that you can uit. Emplooee turnover is incredible; most employees don't last a year.

    Advice to Management

Hire leaders, not bosses. Hire personel with people skills and your company will be more successul.

I worked at Seaboard Marine full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

I learned a lot of the transportation industry, especially the impact the company has on our South Florida community. I also learned many essential skills within my department to make it a well-rounded experience. The people within my department, as well as other departments are great to work with. Plenty of work to go around, so you get to interact with people of diverse backgrounds. The company also offers great benefits to attract good people (most of the positions provide benefits upon the first day of hire)!

    Cons

Some managers within different departments don't know how to lead their employees effectively. Some of them became managers due to their long tenure with the company. Due to this "tenure status", it does not allow for good people to grow within the company.

    Advice to Management

Evaluate all of your managers to make sure that they can foster its growth for the next thirty years. As a first step, make sure to communicate the company's vision to all of your employees so everyone is on the same page of how this great company can continue its presence within the 21st century.

    Pros

Excelent benefits, 401K, health & dental insurance. Great deal of camaraderie!

    Cons

    Not enough communication between departments.

    Advice to Management

Commercial divisions need to follow same standards.
