    Great work life balance. Senior Management really care about their employees and HR does a great job cultivating and inclusive work environment.

    -Unparalleled travel opportunities (10 countries, 2 continents within first year)
    -Impressive annual training events, also international
    -Loyalty rewards (airline and hotel status)
    -Small company without the 'luxury' of hierarchy results in very high-level client contact very early on

    Cons

    -Little influence over travel schedule; results in standard consulting downsides
    -Very office dependent culture; some offices more open and team-oriented than others

    More transparency into career and pay progression within company and potential outside opportunities

    Pros

    If you are staffed on one of the larger projects in the firm, it can be interesting work. There can be extensive travel too - so if you enjoy that aspect of work, that is a plus. But the same few people get rewarded with these projects - and there are not enough of them (so if you aren't one of those few, forget it.) Many kind, smart and interesting employees.

    Cons

    The turnover at all levels MD-Analyst is noticeably high, and it's sad to watch some great people come in, become unhappy, and leave. Teams are purposefully divided / silo'd (which significantly impacts pay and opportunities) so there is low/little sense of teamwork across groups. In fact you rarely get to meet many of them. There is no real cross-Seabury identity, it feels like groups are truly competitors, and there is a pervasive lack of respect across several groups (amazingly, reinforced by disparaging comments made by senior leadership!) HR-related matters are routinely and severely mishandled, which simply drives people to be disengaged, and leave. Compensation, bonuses and promotions are decided at whim at best, and there is no consistency of process or rules. The senior team constantly congratulates themselves publicly, but rarely acknowledge lower-level employee's contributions. Sad to see for a people-driven business.

    Advice to Management

    You might consider speaking and listening to your employee's concerns and actually acting on the things that frustrate them. Management (not only the CEO) clearly do not care about employee's at all. The culture is dismal and toxic - and it comes from the lack of interest, engagement, and leadership from the top, down to the next level. Complete lack of transparency and communications from the CEO and other senior leadership. So sad, this could be such a better company!

    Pros

    Honestly, I struggle to find pros at this company. I think the one positive thing I can say is that they are in an interesting industry.

    Cons

    Where to start.

    First off, respect is a one-way street. Leadership has publicly yelled at me numerous times - for things I didn't do. I've said a friendly hello to members of leadership as I passed them in the halls, and they looked right through me without saying a word. Multiple times.

    The company makes a big deal about their coverage of your healthcare premiums and the fact they pay you bonuses. However, they seem to have forgotten that those are just parts of the compensation package that were negotiated during the interview process.

    Bonuses are a complete mystery. You can bust your hump for a year and end up with a significantly reduced bonus. Nobody will explain why the number went up or down, but every now and then, you will hear rumors that health care costs went up, or business was slower than usual, so bonuses had to come down. Advice to potential employees: reduce your exposure to fluctuations in bonuses by negotiating your base pay up, and your bonus down.

    Work / life balance is non-existent. You are expected to be available at all times, no matter what. For example, during a major medical issue that required me to be off work, I was told to, "just take a couple Ibuprofen - that's what I do." As long as you're breathing, you are expected to work.

    Leadership is busy doing Sr. Analyst work, and is not putting enough effort into leading the company. David Spurlock said this himself, so at least they're aware of it.

    The training trips are silly at best. If you're based in North America, you'll be up all night flying Coach, and a few hours after landing, you start a 10-hour day. The next four days will run 14 to 16 hours each, with one or two 60-minute breaks: ""Free time to catch-up on emails, socialising, relax etc" (quoted verbatim from the agenda). And then you get to fly home all day Saturday and be right back at it by Monday. Advice to potential and current employees: the courses aren't particularly good or interesting - if you're tired, just go to your room and sleep.

    Advice to Management

    You're not doing anyone a favor when you live up to the compensation package the employee negotiated, so stop acting like you're bestowing largesse upon them.

    You guys need to sit down and think about what the bonus program is. What behaviors do you want to encourage? What behaviors do you want to discourage? Then, communicate that to the entire company. Reward employees based on what you've communicated to them. Don't just dump a paystub on everyone's desk and walk off.

    Additionally, bonuses need to be tied to employee performance only. It is ridiculous to base bonuses on overall company profit. That's a profit-sharing system - not a bonus.

    You've got the right idea with the training trips - it's just not executed very well. I know you want to get the most out of everyone after spending all that money flying everyone to the event, but people's brains can't process work for 14+ hours a day - especially when they're starting the week drained from an overnight flight in Coach.

    Second, while it is true that the trips are in world-renowned resort towns, what's the point in being at a great resort if you spend the entire day in a conference room? If you want employees to be grateful for getting a free trip to a world-class resort, give them a couple days (at your expense) to do whatever they want. Otherwise, it's just an off-site meeting, and you need to respect people who view it as a disruption in their lives.

    Pros

    For those reading these Seabury reviews, you should be aware that Seabury consists of investment banking, restructuring, and consulting groups, all with very different cultures and career trajectories. I think many of the reviews (especially some of the older ones, or those that refer to a "Dallas Office") refer to the investment banking group. I worked for over 4 years in the consulting group, and my review is specifically for that group.

    Pros:
    - International experience
    - Nice people
    - Interesting projects
    - Relatively small project teams means that junior consultants get senior-level client exposure
    - Small firm where you can carve out interesting roles for yourself
    - Great training ground for consulting, in general. This is due to a combination of their review process (which is pretty rigorous), the relatively broad range of work that one is exposed to in aviation, and the fact that the highly quantitative nature of aviation work is a great training ground for technical consulting skills. I've worked at a couple other consulting firms since leaving Seabury, and have found myself better prepared than folks that came from many other firms (including from the Big 3).

    Cons

    Again, these cons only apply to the consulting group
    - Very top-heavy organization; lots of senior guys who are super smart, but aren't great at selling
    - The company hasn't been growing. Upward movement starts to slow down at consulting firms that don't grow. The US and London offices have been shrinking in recent years, and the HKG office never grew beyond a skeleton crew, so it's not a great environment for new hires to walk into.
    - Low utilization: the nature of smaller consulting firms is that your staffing utilization will be lower than at bigger firms. You'll spend a decent amount of time waiting for projects to hit.

    Advice to Management

    Seabury is too top heavy, and filled with senior guys who don't sell. They need to either (a) implement a rigorous up-or-out policy, recognizing that the skills that make someone a good junior consultant aren't the same as those that make someone a good partner, or (b) create a band of VP's (mid/senior level) who are smart and have deep expertise, but don't get promoted beyond that point unless they demonstrate potential to be rainmakers.

    This top heavy structure demoralizes more junior employees, who take it as a signal that the firm won't grow, and that opportunities for promotion to the partner ranks are limited.

    Pros

    A well respected firm with a global footprint. Great exposure to all aspects of the commercial airline industry, with an up and coming aerospace and defense practice. A fair chance that a 2-3 year tenure would entail travel to client sites across all (inhabited) continents.
    Expect to interact with the C-suite, both internally and at the client, from Day 1. The firm probably employs at least one expert in every aspect of the aviation and travel industry.
    One of the best annual holiday parties in NYC and one-off team build getaways to popular vacation spots (if you are not tied up with a client engagement)
    Standard pay with a big annual bonus.

    Cons

    Low morale and high attrition. If there is one guiding principle to navigate the company, go with Empty-Vessels-Make-The-Most-Noise and nowhere is the cacophony greater than the Dallas office. As the well respected Founders/Senior Management are getting ready to retire, the future looks rocky especially due to the lack of a competent Mid-Senior level.
    Expect to witness some questionable directives, such as instructions to lie to immigration officers in order to avoid getting business visas. You will be asked to use Deloitte's negotiated discount code while making hotel reservations and instructed to pose as a Deloitte employee during check-in.
    A large proportion of mid level managers and partners have limited non-Seabury experience and while they know everything about commercial airlines, they know nothing about anything else.

    Advice to Management

    Work on your succession plan and motivate employees to stay. Remember that good pay alone does not let you retain talent

    Pros

    Fabulous industry with global perspective. The projects you work on bring you around the world in challenging situations. Small boutique firm means you get broad exposure to difficult problems. Implementation on-sell means you get to see through your advice into results.

    Cons

    Lots of chiefs - difficult to move from an indian to a chief. No balance sheet thus heavily reliant on fee income. Investment banking side has little career path.

    Advice to Management

    Seabury should sell itself to a larger institution if it wants to be a full service aviation investment bank. Some of the sectors Seabury strives to be in are ones that it should jettison. Focus on your core business

    -good exposure to clients in the airline community at very senior levels
    -excellent learning: sometimes quite deep and technical
    -excellent networking within airlines: very easy to jump many years
    -particularly good for airline employees who want some rigorous learning and to jump a level in management

    Cons

    -intense working hours and travel can be excessive
    -not naturally good at promoting quickly
    -culture is not always supportive: rather a dry environment

    Advice to Management

    More up and out: hire more junior people

    Pros

    There are no pros to working with this firm.

    Cons

    Poor work/life bablance.
    Compensation is well below market rate.
    No training.
    No upward mobility - Not a merit based environment, even though they say that they are.
    Poor communication from senior leaders.
    No flexibility to use time-off (was told many times that I couldn't take days off on religious holidays).
    It's a boys club. Diversity is not encouraged.

    Advice to Management

    Quit.
