    I have been working at Seagate Technology full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    It is a good experience in an R&D group to learn from staff engineers how they think about solving problems;
    People are very nice and there is good communication between teams;
    Mentors assigned to interns are nice and good at teaching;
    Work/life balance and working environment is good, at least for R&D groups.

    Cons

    Not too much training classes for interns.

    Disapproves of CEO

    I worked at Seagate Technology full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    Not many left, which is why most people who can find another job leave.

    Cons

    Sometimes no raises or less than a couple percent. Very few benefits left, no good health insurance any more. Employees not treated well, just a number to be cut.

    I have been working at Seagate Technology full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Great people, decent work-life balance. Pay is very competitive. HDD's are a very mature technology but that also means each improvement requires very challenging engineering problems to be solved. Not a military/government/medical product so there are not regulation hurdles that prevent some the newest and most exotic tech.

    Cons

    Company spends a lot of time convincing employees of a stable business which in itself is troubling; especially given the amount of recent layoffs and site closures.
     No clear long term path to address markets outside of spinning disk. There are some 'big company' business process headaches.

    Advice to Management

    Find a long term plan to address (the eventual) decline of spinning disk markets.

    I have been working at Seagate Technology full-time

    Pros

    Flexible schedule, clear goals, interesting technology

    Cons

    Lack of communication between 1st shift and offshift, limited advancement opportunities.

    Advice to Management

    Encourage more development of lower level engineers

    I worked at Seagate Technology full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Smart, amazing co-workers
    Data based decisions
    Professional business processes, strong 6 sigma spirit of data and improvement
    High pay and decent (though diminishing) benefits

    Cons

    Hard Disk Drive portion of the business is changing dramatically, so a layoffs every 6-9 months. Not a lot of upward or even lateral mobility in a contracting company.
    Environment has moved from excellence, risk taking and strong meritocracy to a lot of politics, cronyism, and conservatism - the other reviews about the good ol' boys network are sadly true now, too.

    Advice to Management

    Need to take a serious look at the negative cultural changes of the past 5 1/2 years. Focus on your amazing employees. Culture, environment, and workplace tone do matter.

    I worked at Seagate Technology as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Advanced technology, nice people, great environment, and a nice work life balance.

    Cons

    The changing market for hard drives means a more variable work life, which can be exciting for some people!
