I worked at Seagate Technology full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

competitive salary, decent benefits, great co-workers

    Cons

More work assigned due to constant RIF. Continuously worrying that your job is being eliminated in the NEXT round of layoffs. Personal performance does not translate into salary increases or job security.

    Advice to Management

Get on with the restructuring changes rather than delaying. You're losing good people as a result. Morale is terrible, but you apparently have the blinders on.

I worked at Seagate Technology (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great place to work if you are passionate about data storage and acknowledge the fact that the company is a dying breed.

    Cons

The company exclusively designs and manufactures hard disk drives. They are facing extreme pressure from the flash storage market. The company leadership is either incapable or doesn't care to change the direction of the company and so the company will die in a few years. The company only promotes yes men who go along with the poor decisions of the executive leadership.

    Cons

Going to hell in a hand basket.

    Pros

Challenging work, dedicated workers and decent benefits.

    Cons

No raises, no bonuses, no promotions, dismal culture, many foreigners who barely speak or write in English.

    Advice to Management

Should've never have thought the business was going to double 3 years ago...now look at the place. Close to 10k to be let go over the last year and yet the top brass remain! If you would've promoted from within perhaps the good ole boys club could've learned something! This is what happens to companies that are run by non tech savvy bankers and bean counters! Guess that billion dollar building in Singapore was worth it huh!

    Pros

Pros are non-existent. If I had to list a couple it would be good compensation / benefits and onsite workout facility.

    Cons

Lack of leadership or weak leadership at corporate level.
    Company seems to be directionless.
No long term plan to fix issues.

    Advice to Management

Openness and honesty to employees on current situation.

I have been working at Seagate Technology full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good work/life balance, and I think this is the only advantage of Seagate that I can think right now.

    Cons

    Inefficient for adopting new ideas.
Too many lay-offs, and the lay-off is not based on your performance evaluation.
    Too many reorganizations.
Too much politics for a technology company.
    Compensation is below average.

"A place full of great individuals with nothing to look forward to"

    Pros

Individuals who are excellent to work with and get to know
Flexible schedule (For those who are not bound to working a specific shift)
    Casual work environment

    Cons

No rewards for exceeding expectations, everyone is treated the same. You will be treated the same as the worst person in your department.
There is no room for advancement, everyone is stagnant. There is absolutely nothing to aim for or look forward to. It doesn't matter how good you are or how big of difference you make. Everyone is constrained, held back, and equally diminished by the corporate executives and their socialist policies.

    Advice to Management

Reward your many excellent employees for their hard work and outstanding accomplishments. They deserve it! Stop treating everyone the same. Even the smallest positive gesture towards a well-deserving employee can go a long, long way. Seriously though, treat people fairly. People who deserve raises and rewards should get them. People who don't should not. We are not all equal. If we are, then there is no reason to be motivated. Stop blaming the macro economy and using it as justification for your poor treatment of the employees.
