I have been working at Seagate Technology as an intern

    Pros

The people are very nice and make the day go by smoothly. Management treats employees well. As an intern, I feel welcome and appreciated.

    Cons

There aren't very many downsides to working here. There isn't a ton of structure,so if you're a person who wants structure, this may not be the place for you.

    Advice to Management

Continue making your employees feel welcome and appreciated.

I have been working at Seagate Technology full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great people, decent work-life balance. Pay is very competitive. HDD's are a very mature technology but that also means each improvement requires very challenging engineering problems to be solved. Not a military/government/medical product so there are not regulation hurdles that prevent some the newest and most exotic tech.

    Cons

Company spends a lot of time convincing employees of a stable business which in itself is troubling; especially given the amount of recent layoffs and site closures.
No clear long term path to address markets outside of spinning disk. There are some 'big company' business process headaches.

    Advice to Management

Find a long term plan to address (the eventual) decline of spinning disk markets.

I worked at Seagate Technology full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Shakopee site has a very collaborative environment. Many nice people to work with. Very diversified. Everyone works to push the products out of the door.

    Cons

Industry is going down. No new products. Minnesota nice couldn't compete with Colorado cowboys/cowgirls. :).

    Pros

Opportunities to work on new technologies. Good compensation when compared with peer. Good life work balance.

    Cons

HDD industry consolidating and SSD is replacing the high performance products. Hence less room for personal and industry growth.

I have been working at Seagate Technology full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Except the tough market, Seagate has established itself as leading HDD provider and continuously expanding in other areas which gives a chance for career growth. Relaxed working environment, decent compensation.

    Cons

Along with many dedicated employees, a lot of piggybackers. Not a lot of young employees. No encouragement for team building exercises.

    Advice to Management

More interaction between internal teams should be encouraged, redundancy of work should be avoided. More collaboration needed. And management should know who is actually doing work behind the scene, hire dedicated people who are committed to get things done.
