I have been working at Seapine Software, Inc. full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The previous owners really care about employees, great work environment with nice amenities (coffee, soda, some lunches, etc.). Good work-life balance because there's not a lot of pressure to complete tasks quickly.

    Cons

The company was sold. The new company says they care but I don't feel they practice what they preach.

    Advice to Management

I realize the new executive management team is in another city but would be nice to have all managers share more/be more visible and come to the Mason office more than every once in a while. Morale is pretty low these days.

I have been working at Seapine Software, Inc. full-time

    Pros

Team members are very nice and are enjoyable to work with. Co-workers and managers are smart and competent, so you can rely on them to carry their weight. The building is only a couple years old with lots of windows & light, ping pong tables, and workout room. Individual work areas are very nice and the office feel is a good of agile & traditional work areas. The benefit package is very good. They are flexible on working hours and the dress is very casual. The development schedules are reasonable and achievable, which is great for a work/life balance. A few times each year there are innovation day events where employees can work on anything they want, which has really helped cultivate new ideas and product ownership.

    Cons

There was a negative vibe with some employees a few years ago, but the overall attitude at the company is very positive now and the current team is focused on making great products.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the events that make Seapine's existing culture so nice (food at events, innovation days, relaxed environment)

    Pros

Culture, flex schedule, great benefits package, family oriented.

    Cons

Lack of direction and drive. Seems like message changes every couple of years. No advancement or education incentives available.

I have been working at Seapine Software, Inc. full-time

    Pros

The people are the greatest "pro" about Seapine. Very fun place to work. Lots of social events, great atmosphere. People are always willing to pitch in and help. Schedules are flexible and your work/life balance is respected. Nice amenities, too -- gym, free soda and coffee, ping pong tables, yoga, community garden, etc.

    Cons

Seapine's products face some stiff competition in the market, and staying ahead of the curve has been challenging. The company has had to make changes, but those changes seem to be paying off.

    Advice to Management

Keep innovating. Speed up the development cycle.

I worked at Seapine Software, Inc. full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Seapine provides a great package of benefits.

    Cons

Seapine has lost its top talent in the last few years. Unfortunately it's products have failed to keep up with changes in its market.

    Advice to Management

I am not optimistic about your prospects, but you may have one last chance. Your flagship product is a dinosaur with little future. It is time to rewrite from scratch. You need fresh ideas and the people currently in charge of TestTrack don't have them.

I worked at Seapine Software, Inc. full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Building is beautiful, hours are flexible, coworkers are nice. Ping-pong tournaments, march madness brackets and free food.

    Cons

All of the smart people have left the building.
The products here are heavy-weight, are built on old, old technology and are brittle so those that can have left within the last 24 months. Nothing gets updated because management is familiar with the existing stuff.
They are trapped competing with free or nearly free competitors.
The one differentiating product they had (QA Wizard) was basically shelved because the sales people can't understand it well enough to sell it.
It is a sad situation. Many of us were rooting for the company to succeed but it has gone the way of Attachmate, sitting rotten on the shelf way past its sell-by date.

    Advice to Management

Hang in there little buddy. Maybe someday your competition will stop giving away their software.

    j/k

    Pros

Great cultule/perks such as potlucks, drinks, picnics, ping pong, board games etc...
    Friendly management and co-workers
    Good software development process
Headquarters in good city in the Ohio area

    Cons

Similar software products are free/open source, increasing the need to maintain sales in a declining market.

I worked at Seapine Software, Inc. full-time

    Pros

Friendly coworkers, free pop, flex time, yoga classes, ping pong tournaments, occasional free meals

    Cons

Sometimes a lot of pressure to get things done in an impossible time frame. Little training. At times the employee is just thrown in to manage the best he can. Co-ops are counted as full time employees when schedules are set up.

    Advice to Management

Better start up plans are needed for new employees. Co-ops should not be treated as full time employees. They are slower.

I have been working at Seapine Software, Inc. full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    Schedule is fairly flexible.

    Cons

For a company that has been around since 1995, you would think they would have a better idea of what it takes to develop progressive, competitive solutions. There are no marketing efforts and the management turnover in sales is unlike anything I have ever encountered before. Company keeps talking about collaboration between sales and other groups, but nothing every occurs. No growth or advancement opportunities.

    Advice to Management

Actually listen to your employees on what it takes to be competitive in the marketplace.
