I worked at Sears full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I liked the people I worked with and I mostly enjoyed my job in HR.

    Cons

Poor wages, continuously cutting hours, as an HR manager I also had to supervise and man the office, customer service, and cash office on same shift at same time.

    Advice to Management

Don't keep cutting hours. If any good people are still left, treat them well and give them work. If you treat people well, they do awesome things for your business.

I worked at Sears full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Pay and benefits are better than average.

    Cons

The call center in Mobile AL is a racially charged environment (mostly African American) and the senior leadership team leads through intimidation and is not receptive to new people or ideas.

    Advice to Management

Value diversity (Caucasians) and learn to motivate without intimidation and bullying.

I worked at Sears full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Worked in 3 stores and they were always a good environment to be in.

    Cons

They should pay their associates more. I was a store manager and it was always difficult retaining great talent because pay is minimum wage for hourly associates.

    Advice to Management

Create constant incentive contests to drive results.

I have been working at Sears full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Learned a lot of the retail business, make great friends, you find a better paying job after you leave

    Cons

Your job feels on the line everytime you work, Company does not give employees raises they have been on a raise freeze, if they move you up they give you cents in a raise instead of dollar amount raises. You are not there for the customer but for the weekly walk by the district manager,

    Advice to Management

    keep your employees happy

I have been working at Sears full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great people, decent work life balance, co-workers overall are genuine and willing to work with you

    Cons

Uncertain times with layoffs and more store closures than in the past

    Advice to Management

Stick with initiatives, or better planning to them ahead of time, it gets confusing and frustrating to associates with a constant revolving flavor of the month

    Pros

many learning opportunities with the lack of managers or the lack of competent and consistant managers the opportunity to take on more responsibility for anyone who steps up is there, sometimes the training is a little hard to get if no one in your store knows how to do something or is to busy, I work with alot of great people right now at least most of them are, difficult people are very hard to get rid of and increase the work load for everyone else, good retirement benefits and stocks are available for any associate after the first year

    Cons

inconsistency in management, I've been through 3 Store Managers and 5 Assistant Store Managers and I've only been with Sears for a little over a year, some have been good, some really tried, and others deserved to be fired, unrealistic expectations

    Advice to Management

have a better back up plan for hard to fill management positions, and a better training plan for management new to Sears
