I worked at Sears full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Clean, friendly work environment. Flexible schedule. Cross-training encouraged and enabled for those who are interested.

    Cons

Immediate supervisor lacked foresight, follow-up and was unwilling to "own it" as company policies were continuously broken due to the team manager being reluctant to discipline employees privately. All challenges were handled in a group coaching environment despite some of the most damaging behaviors being gross individual actions violating time management and professional workplace vocabulary standards.

    Advice to Management

A one billion plus dollar challenge is never going to be improved upon when the need for immediate performance and long term commitment to improvement is secondary to executing layoffs based on tenure. Employees with good attendance are better candidates for long term, trustworthy performance as opposed to those who are predictably absent, predictably late and predictably vulgar.

I worked at Sears part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Customers, Associate Discount + Discount, Teamwork, Some Commission, Friendly Co-Workers, Mandatory breaks/lunches, Recognition, Other Co-workers willing to hook you up with deals in their department.

    Cons

Managers Taking Week Off for Holidays in Violation of Company Policy, Scarce Cashiers Available, Can't Ask for Raises or Risk Termination

    Advice to Management

Management should be more responsive in answering the call for a manager instead of leaving fellow associates and customers waiting for 30 minutes at a time. There is no teamwork if avoiding customers is the goal. Customers come first and are the reason for the company's sales. Taking online commission away eliminated any willingness to continue to drive sales especially when you threaten to fire an employee if they ask for a raise.
