    Pros

Fosters a great work environment and makes you feel like a part of the family. I was also very happy with the food that they had for the employees. Also they hold meetings every Friday to keep everyone informed which is a very nice touch.

    Cons

Company is expanding a lot so you move around quite a bit.

    Pros

Lot of drugs in the pipeline, great research opportunities, most competitive salary for research in the Seattle area. Some people are great managers, so if you're lucky it could work out well for you.

    Cons

Some managers are disrespectful micro-managers, purely task oriented individuals who fail to see the bigger picture. People who have been working here for over 10 years refuse to change and stuck in old school mentalities. No action or accountability for bad behavior by supervisors.

    Advice to Management

When people of opposing personalities work together, productivity decreases and the company loses people who are talented. There should be some form of employee feedback for managers who aren't doing their job well.

I have been working at Seattle Genetics full-time

    Pros

Ground-level teams are excellent. Everyone works very well together and everyone fosters a drive to work well with each other. People are passionate about both their work and the company.

Lighting is nice and a decent amount of natural light around the edges of the buildings but interior areas' floors sag and every cubicle is very small. Manager offices are all very nice, as they were built for them.

Large variety of work, so much to get experience on, from lab work to manufacturing to run of the mill items. Much of the challenge comes only in time and volume, however.

Some of the managers, especially those who have been with the company for a while, are genuinely excellent.

    Cons

Management frequently discounts the expert advice and opinions of their reports and departments. There is not career mobility. Major changes are made without communication between groups, often causing disasters.

IT Management is a mixed bag. Some of the application group managers are great, but the leadership in the Tech Services group is very lackluster. Employees are not invited to be a part of decision or even the conversation and there is very little communication both within the group and between the groups

Recent changes in Lead roles have caused stress as new lead(s) are vastly unqualified/untrained, moving into new roles with no training. The change was made without guidance and has caused a significant amount of stress for them and their new "teams".

The number one complaint of the IT Department for the last 3-4 years has been a lack of or poor communication. Nothing has been done to resolve it other than halfhearted efforts that peter out within a quarter.

Most groups are on-call and volume has increased of late to a dramatic degree. Unaware of any planned change in compensation as a result. There was a company-wide decision to allow WFH, but IT is the only group excluded as far as I'm aware.

The big one is that there isn't any career development. In the last 4-6 years there have been three or four promotions in the entire group. No career ladder at all and management knows and does not care to fix or address.

Below average compensation for area. Good stock/401k/benefits.

A lot of instability and firings in the last year. Colleagues have been let go under questionable judgement.

    Advice to Management

Train your Leads, have clearly defined roles and communication processes. Don't allow managers to play favorites, make decisions open and allow input. Get your Directors and such to listen to their people rather than making broad decisions (or often as bad, no decision). Set up an actual career ladder and make people feel like you care they are there.

    Pros

Growing company, good products in pipline

    Cons

Disorganized department, no chance of growth, Managers are not trained and no integrity and trust with the employees, micromanagers and no work life balance. HR does not look at the employee concerns only saves managers back. No coworkers are happy and no team work.

    Advice to Management

HR should help employee and find more details about what is going on in that department. Managers need to be specific about the expectations from the employee and learn to praise them for the good job done.

    Pros

line management is very supportive, company values career development. There is a sense that all individuals regardless of level are on an equal playing field and input from all team members is encouraged.

    Cons

company is just now adopting some regular work from home options for on campus full time employees. As such there are a number of growing pains related to webex meetings. Teams also operate on the leaner side and therefore work life balance can sometimes be stretched.

I have been working at Seattle Genetics full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Company benefits are great. Very good work life balance and a lot training opportunities for leadership and current career development with budget for attending conference at least once annually.

    Cons

As the company grows bigger in size, opportunities for lateral growth is significantly harder compare to years ago when company was still relatively small. They want to retain their employee, but there is not much priority or opportunities for internal candidate who which to expand their career path and develop their career laterally. Internal transfer can be very tricky depending if your manager is opened to it or not.

    Advice to Management

It would be great if the company can implement some kind of exchange program across different department, so manager get to test drive and train existing talents with other skill instead of existing employee looks for new adventure and learning new skill sets else where.

    Pros

Company is good. Works towards the cause to cure cancer.

    Cons

Awful supervisor. No respect for an employee, does not listen and comes to conclusion, micromanages and no flexibility compared to other employees in same department. Horrible work environment. No clear communication between the manager and employee.

    Advice to Management

Look into managers training on how to communicate and respect their colleagues.

I have been working at Seattle Genetics full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Excellent benefits, especially the health insurance. Most people in the company are wonderful to work with. CEO is very passionate about the company.

    Cons

No option to work remotely in spite of the godawful traffic in the area.
The programming department has a lot of misogyny in it. There is also bad blood between the programming and biostatistics departments which is taken out on the programmers, and HR doesn't seem to want to do anything. Managers tend to play favorites which affects career growth. Taking sick leave and vacations is frowned upon and sometimes not allowed.
