    Positive Outlook

I worked at Sefton Council full-time

    Pros

Good forward thinking council with lots of funding for new projects, Plenty of new facilities in this very big borough.

    Cons

Too many mid-level managers slowing down progression. Wages take forever to get someone new set up on the payroll system.

    Advice to Management

Go back to the old ways with a Leisure Assistants, Duty Officer and then a Centre Manager and have someone answering the phones.

I worked at Sefton Council full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Great management, ongoing training opportunities, good pension scheme, possibility to join trade union, generous holiday pay, child care voucher scheme

    Cons

Working towards monthly very high targets, sometimes very stressful, but besides that really I can't find any cons and I was working there almost ten years

    Advice to Management

    Keep doing great job

    Neutral Outlook

    Pros

Flexible working, good location, good terms and conditions, the buildings are of a good standard

    Cons

The Directors and Heads of Service are hopeless and terrified of their own shadows

There is a culture of blame everybody but me, and this is used by Senior Leaders to undermine staff relations

    Advice to Management

    Listen to the staff

I worked at Sefton Council full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Colleagues were friendly and supportive. Opportunities were wide and varied. Continuous professional development was encouraged. Flex working arrangements were in place.

    Cons

Quality of office accommodation was poor but to be expected given the nature of financial cuts. Employees had to pay to park.

    Advice to Management

Managers were generally supportive and accessible. Improvements? Greater awareness of / openmindedness re future opportunities and possibilities for developing and growing the business

    Doesn't Recommend

    Pros

Good flexible working policies, friendly people to work with, excellent management development programme that is in high demand amongst staff, and is in the process of developing a really good coaching and staff management strategy.

    Cons

Lacks communication at all levels of the organisation, change management is chaotic, systems are non-existent, and it is going through GBP 64+ million that will see several hundreds of redundancies in the coming 2 years. It's PR is based on firefighting rather than being proactive.

    Advice to Management

Plan your change management, don't just restructure it on the hoof. Project plan the details of the change and then select key people from around the organisation to drive them forward. If you believe in the coaching style of management, and releasing potential, let the more junior managers make the changes that are needed.
