I have been working at Select Medical full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Wonderful people to work with. SOME of the people are there to be a part of a team-the higher you go the less you see that!

    Cons

Pay, pay, pay. Love the job but can't afford to stay. They preach "Team" but are all about the dollar. NEPOTISM!!!

    Advice to Management

Become more competetive. People can't afford to live on the sallaries you offer. Pay attention to what your people are saying to you! The amount of money spent training people due to high turnover rates is such a waste. Pay the good employees so they will stay!

I worked at Select Medical part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Some of the staff really care.

    Cons

Under staffed , too much responsibility on the nurses.

    Advice to Management

Increase the amount of nurses you let work each day. Stop using acuity to determine staff acuity changes all day for those patients

    Pros

I am supposed to submit at least twenty words for the pros of this company before it will let me submit my review. Here are twenty seven.

    Cons

Too many chiefs! Schedules are whacked. Always looking for employees. That should speak volumes. Managers need more training on handling situations, harassment and education before being put into their jobs.

    Advice to Management

Stop basing everything on numbers. Just let people do their jobs and base it on individual accomplishments. Why should 4 people get a bonus when 3 did nothing to earn it?

I have been working at Select Medical full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Good PTO and the ability to carry over
    - Good people
    - Flexibility to work remote (infrequently)
    - Free day at Hersheypark for Corporate Campus employees

    Cons

This company does not invest in young, innovative professionals. For those that prefer the outdated practice of sitting at your desk from 8-5 with no questions asked, you're looking in the right place. For younger folks who understand and practice a flexible schedule and are looking for great growth opportunities, you will struggle.

There is a huge communication gap between leadership and the employees. Company news is often found through the internet before it comes through an internal communication (if at all). Nobody, not even leadership will take accountability for anything which makes it extremely difficult and painful to accomplish the smallest tasks.

    Advice to Management

Trust your employees and let them know they are valued through promotions and acknowledgment. Give up the old outdated practices (no benefits or PTO accrual for your first 90 days???)

I worked at Select Medical full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Make your own schedule. Set your own pace. Create your own marketing and business strategies for your assigned territory. Very flexible.

    Cons

Micromanaged to the max! Overwhelming pressure to acquire referrals and admits with no regards to the census' of referring hospitals. Management isn't clinically trained and strictly are numbers people.

    Advice to Management

Understand there's expectations and then there's reality. Numbers don't always tell the truth so if you want to maintain certain goals and change the culture of certain facilities then your administration needs to start getting their hands dirty on a daily basis. Stop putting so much pressure the jobs of staff members on your marketing team.

I have been working at Select Medical full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The patient population is very interesting medically. With an average three week stay you can really get to know them and do good work to improve their life/outcome.
Great training. Very knowledgeable/experienced nursing staff. Very well rounded nursing care, you do everything.. critical drips, codes, comfort care, vents, trachs, moderate sedation, procedures.

    Cons

Very heavy and unpredictable work load. Short staffing. Unrealistic expectations from management. Dysfunctional management/staff relations.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees more. Try to respond constructively. Work with us.

    Former Employee - Anonymous Employee

    Pros

They offer a good benefits package with a company match 401k at 20%. Their In house CEU opportunities are good and are free. There is always work to be done and openings within the company.

    Cons

Management only cares about hitting numbers and overall revenue. There is a high turnover rate because they don't offer a competitive salary. A lot of first year grads because starting salary is low. Always want you to do outside marketing events. Not much room for growth.

    Advice to Management

Invest in your employees instead of hiring 1st yr grads for a cheaper price.

I worked at Select Medical full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

You learn a lot, some coworkers are great

    Cons

Overworked, purposefully understaffed, management couldn't care less about what actually happens on the floor

    Advice to Management

You're not just managing any business, you're managing a business that directly affects lives. You see profits, but your profits are endangering patients. Listen to your staff.
