I have been working at Select Medical full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Once you do a year at Select everywhere else is a breeze

    Cons

Management stays in their offices, always short on nursing, unethical practices of holding people until insurance will no longer pay not when patient is ready to go, poor communication, case management department is full of uneducated people who don't care, uses agency nurses that have no clue

    Advice to Management

Get your head out of the clouds or your bonuses and actually do your job. Get out of your offices and go help. Focus on job retention, when 65% leave within 90 days, you have a problem.

I worked at Select Medical full-time

    Pros

They have a new grad training program, but you have 6 months to be considered on your own. Too many policies and procedures that current staff do not follow nor even know about. CNA's brown nose to nurses they like and then refuse to help nurses they don't like who really need help. You are pushed to make patient's happy (because this is their $$) but then they complain when you stay over to finish documentation. Charge nurse and CNA will lie about you so they don't get in trouble (especially if your new). Some nurses will help but only for a little while.

    Cons

This is a complex environment due to the nature of being an ICU step-down. Don't get involved if your a new graduate RN. This is too complex because you can't specialize in any area. You are thrown in there with all and every, including behavioral patients!!!!

    Advice to Management

If you do a new grad program, allow the new grads 12 months to be as efficient as the ones who have been there a long time. There are some who have been there a long time, but they came when it was much easier and grew with the company. This is too complex now of a company to put new nurses into this.

    Pros

The people in leadership here a superbly kind, very supportive, and extremely motivating! They are also very understanding when things come up without wavering on their expectations of excellence. Most of the leaders I've encountered fit this description to a T, and the ones that don't are quickly dealt with and let go. I appreciate a company that "takes out the trash" when needed and supports their own core values in the process.

    Cons

I honestly can't think of any cons. I love this work, I love this job, and most importantly I love this company!

    Advice to Management

Continue sticking to the core values by insisting each members of your leadership team does so! Thank you!

I have been working at Select Medical full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Make acquisitions that quickly grow the company. Job security and stability. Tons of room to advance and grow. Pretty good benefits package. Holiday party in December every year and employee appreciation day at Hershey Park every June. Also have a lot of events on campus to raise money for different organizations. Very philanthropic.

    Cons

Pay a little bit lower than similar companies, but not enough to make a huge difference. They make up for it in a bunch of other aspects.

I have been working at Select Medical full-time

    Pros

Good pay. Good atmosphere and coworkers. Nice caseload. Productivity. Good for first time job experience. Will not leave wanting to pull hair out your head. OT is very welcoming to questions and guidance.

    Cons

No holiday pay. Bad management. No staff meetings.

    Advice to Management

Management needs to work on how they speak to their staff. Allow therapist more input in the organization of the therapy department. I would like to meet one on one with the rehab director to speak my thoughs. I think they should offer a suggestion box.
