I worked at Select Portfolio Servicing full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Awesome opportunity, lots of C-level exposure, staff were friendly and management had open door policy, tons to learn and grow.

    Cons

Generally speaking, it is a healthy company with fun people. However, certain groups in the company are hard to work with.

    Advice to Management

When conducting performance review for an individual or for a group, introduce peer review that will bring in fair and unbiased evaluation from co-worker and/or peer from other business unit.

I worked at Select Portfolio Servicing full-time

    Pros

Favorable hours. Risk management department is generally good to work for, managers are generally hands-off.

    Cons

Poor project management. Expectations are poorly communicated. Business unit managers are frequently uncooperative and, for lack of a better term, cantankerous. SPS likes to act like it is grown up...but it is not. It still has a small-company feel.

    Advice to Management

Communicate on expectations and manager projects more efficiently.

I worked at Select Portfolio Servicing full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good benefits, great company facility and location, great resources available to promote learning and productivity. Supportive management.

    Cons

Very little opportunity for advancement and to earn better pay. It took me more than three years of very, very hard work to finally be promoted and make a decent wage.

    Advice to Management

The managers that I had later on in my career at SPS were wonderful. However, I had prior managers who were very negative and micromanagers and created a lot of low employee moral. Management needs to train its managers to be more positive and to acknowledge employees who perform really well.

    Pros

The company expects a lot out of its employees but if you do what you're asked and accept responsibility for your work, you'll be compensated accordingly.

    Cons

The industry is constantly changing and can be difficult to keep up with.

I have been working at Select Portfolio Servicing as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great company culture, relaxed atmosphere with enough intensity to get the job done. Lots of interesting projects all summer that made the internship really interesting. Enjoyed enough to accept offer for full-time.

    Cons

The internship was somewhat unstructured I didn't know what department I was in until my first day on the job.

    Advice to Management

Solidify structure of internship program to attract more talent to the company.

    Pros

Excellent company for career advancement. Opportunities are plentiful if you are willing to work hard and stay out of the office politics and drama.

    Cons

Too many members of management who feel that leading by fear is effective. It's not.

    Advice to Management

    Equal pay for equal work...

    Advice to Management

I worked at Select Portfolio Servicing full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great pay if you can bonus big each month (must be top 55% among peers to bonus). Base pay is about $30k/yr but through bonuses pay may reach over $70k/yr. 401k plan; dental, medical and vision health insurance. Be fully vested in only 4 years. Mortgage industry knowledge and skills. Paid training. $5,000 per year tuition reimbursement for approved educational pursuits. Gift cards or other prizes awarded often for winners of frequent contests/ meeting current goals. Christmas thank-you gift.

    Cons

No ESPP. Heavily regulated industry so virtually no tolerance for human error. Rules for bonusing constantly changing. Processes and workflow not always efficient or optimally effective. Some supervisors are less informed than they should be and unskilled in being a leader. You're on the phone nearly 8hrs/day. Most job moves are lateral moves. Difficult to actually move up the ranks within the company.

    Advice to Management

Treat your best employees well and make sure they have good opportunity for advancement.
