    Pros

    Really great benefits --25 days vacation/personal and 12 sick and supportive staff.

    Cons

    Do not get off for random days like the day after thanksgiving. Sometimes hard to advance if people stay in position for a while. but really not many cons at all. it is a great place.

    Pros

    There is great dedication to the mission on the part of most managers. Also, there is a structured training program to help develop staff skills in order to retain workers and promote from within.

    Cons

    Annual evaluations leave much to be desired. There is little consistency in how they are conducted between departments. Also, the data systems are not state of the art, which they really should be in such a complex organization.

    Improve data systems and staff evaluation methods.

    Pros

    Most everyone in organization appears committed to clients and Selfhelp mission. The manager and coworkers in my individual office were supportive, team-oriented, and knowledgeable.

    Cons

    Work can be emotionally taxing as clients are extremely traumatized. Communication between departments was frequently challenging.

    Advice to Management

    To upper management - approach management from trauma-informed perspective. When implementing program-wide changes, solicit opinions from front-line staff. Work to improve communication between departments (e.g. social workers and homecare)

    Working for clients who are in need of services

    Cons

    Program needs more proactive leaders who provide more than supervision and give advice on handling of cases. Very stressful!

    Advice to Management

    Need open-door policy and transparency. Support and listen to regular staff and not just managers and directors who give one-sided versions. HR needs to do the same and support staff.

    Pros

    Decent benefits, at least at the start.

    Cons

    HR and middle management are always on the same page. Confidentiality when making a complaint is suspect at best. For the love of God, avoid the Kensington office like the plague, unless you want to have a nervous breakdown.

    Advice to Management

    Please pay attention to employee turnover at the Kensington office and consider that management and not the employees might be the problem.

    Pros

    The Pros are Selfhelp provides free training for Home Health Aide Certificate ( which by law Selfhelp is surpose to give you within 10 business days after completing HHA training )

    Cons

    After training you receive your certificate a month or so later.This is Selfhelp way of holding u back from getting a job with another company.Selfhelp hourly wages are very low and so are the work hours given.Selfhelp does not give u a set work schedule you work if clients are available so it’s like first come first served like a temp agency.

    Advice to Management

    Management needs to act more professional.Management should not tell other people’s business or talk down to applicants or students.Its important to treat people with respect no matter race,religion,or beliefs.Management should never make fun or gossip in front of students.
