I have been working at Seminole State College (More than a year)

    Pros

Being able to adapt my work schedule to my class schedule each semester made college more affordable. Working with a variety of students and teachers gave me insight toward a future career in education.

    Cons

Being capped at 25 hours to ensure that I did not qualify as full-time.

    Positive Outlook

I worked at Seminole State College part-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Most of the students are great to work with as are the staff I worked with directly.

    Cons

IT setup isn't always optimal. Works for most people, but inflexible if you need special setups in a classroom. The eLearning website I used was horrible - slow, confusing, hard to copy classes from one term to another. I'm told they are looking to replace, if so that would be great.

Like most colleges now, they rely upon adjuncts for most of the teaching load. You won't know what classes you have due to enrollments, and won't get most benefits.

    Advice to Management

Look to hire more full time teaching personal to keep quality consistent. Replace the eLearning software if you haven't already.

    Positive Outlook

I have been working at Seminole State College full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great colleagues and good eLearning support.

    Cons

Run by people who have never taught and have no idea how to support teachers.

    Advice to Management

Stop focusing on just enrollment and look at the quality of students being turned out.

I worked at Seminole State College part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I got a chance to learn so much here. They have a great group of knowledgeable employees. If your starting out they can help you learn and grow.

    Cons

The pay is well below industry standards. They will not get rid of people who should have been let go years ago. They expect too much from their employees especially considering the pay.

    Advice to Management

Pay more. You guys will continue to lose quality people if you do not change this downward spiral you are on.

    Neutral Outlook

I worked at Seminole State College part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The main benefit to this position is the flexible schedule. After the first term I was able to set my own hours within the operating hours of the center and total allowed for the position. I worked there for four years mainly because of the professional atmosphere and positive relationships I developed with my colleagues. I was also able to work on a second degree while at the job as long as I kept up with my responsibilities.

    Cons

I would have stayed longer except the position offers no movement or growth. It is what it is: a part-time role without benefits. While one could certainly watch for other positions to open within the college and apply to those, no opportunity for full-time status exits within this role. Sometimes the college would limit the amount of hours ISS could work due to budgeting, which was a detractor for me as well.

I worked at Seminole State College full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Clear and fair performance reviews
    Professional yet relaxed environment
Healthcare Programs and Early Childhood Education are fantastic
    Strong sense of community
    Very accommodating to staff

    Cons

Typical issues within all companies, people who carry out daily tasks do not get enough input on policies that govern these tasks.
Can sometimes feel like staff vs. faculty

    Advice to Management

Embrace technology, weigh staff and faculty input equally.

    Negative Outlook

I worked at Seminole State College full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Seeing the impact of your efforts on the success of students touched by Seminole State

    Cons

A highly political environment (internal politics as well as state) that makes decision making very cumbersome.

    Advice to Management

Please reduce the number of layers of management that have been added in the last couple of years.

    Cons

    No opportunity for movement up

    Advice to Management

Stop watching the bottom line and start observing the value of your human capital.
