I worked at Seminole Tribe of Florida full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    PTO
    401K (matching)
    Health benefit package
    8-5 fixed hours
25% - 50% discount at the Hard Rock cafe all over the world

    Cons

    Too much politics.
Upper manager secrecy. Too much that affects morale.
Employees are out of the loop.
No on-site parking available (just for managers, or good friends of the managers)

    Advice to Management

You need to pay attention on who you choose or hire as a manager/director.
Be more thorough and professional in your selection process, specifically for managers. And once you hire one, you should keep close attention, survey an evaluate what they do the actual management. And listen more to your employees

I worked at Seminole Tribe of Florida (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Interesting place to work, insight and learning things about the tibe. Frindly and fun emplyees. Willing to work with and help employees facing difficulties. Great heath insurance.

    Cons

Extremely high turnover. HR tents to be impatient when helping employees, so willingness to help is short. The dont even want to pay close to what the average is or what a person is worth. Little to no reconition, interactivity, or employee insensitives.

    Advice to Management

Pay people what they are worth. If most employers are paying more for the same position then why sould the employee want to stay? Increase employee insensitives, a happy employee is a productive employee.

    Pros

    Pay is decent
    Holidays and sick time
401k company contributes 3% if you put in 4%

    Cons

Violatile work environment. People are there one day and gone the next. No job security. I have watched people do nothing for years make big salaries and others work hard that are randomly fired. This goes on in every department.

Benefits like snacks, bagels and lunchins have been cut. Holiday parties cut. Salary increases reduced. Meanwhile the Tribe is making more money then ever before.

    Advice to Management

    More stability for employees
Pay that reflects responsibilities not just tenure

I worked at Seminole Tribe of Florida full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Benefits are comparable to state government agencies. Employee development was often encouraged (i.e. conferences and workplace training). The tribe allows employees to participate in community events.

    Cons

Upper management was generally filled with poorly qualified department heads. A general lack of accountability and oversight was pervasive. Benefits often changed with little warning. Employee compensation was not always competitive with other agencies/companies (mostly due to a lack of knowledge by managers and HR).

    Advice to Management

Invest in higher education for young tribal members so they may begin to fill these management positions. Listen to employees create a business culture where they feel secure in bring up issues that need to be addressed.

    Pros

Working for the some of the Seminole people was okay. Many were normal, decent, okay to deal with in providing education services and trying to do your job. Pay was good but you were expected to work extra hours and last minute reports requiring five hours overnight to prepare and write up.

    Cons

Seminole Tribe of Florida (non-casino) operations is a small, family run, organization who employs mostly sick, sad, psycho staff at upper and middle management within Education Dept (not sure of other departments but I understand they were decent). Many of the tribal politicians treated staff like personal slaves and servants. If the politicians (who needed to be re-elected every 4 years) called 'you better move fast' for whatever they needed doing! Other tribal members would game the system so you would be left holding the bag and squarely caught in the middle of an impossible situation that demanded the tribal member get their way (rules, regulations, policies be damned). Yet, upper management got away with psycho murder in how they treated staff all the while being covered by HR. It was a sick, sad venture that resulted in a pitiful employment existence until I found another job. Staff got written up for the most insignificant reasons all because the psycho Director decided to start hating you and wanted you OUT. Make no mistake, if you get written up once - you have no chance of ever escaping to a more decent department (where not insane people are) and you are stuck in the department forever -until they find a reason to fire you. Money was no object since the tribe rakes in BILLIONS each year from gambling operations, yet they have no time to put in some effort to learn how to hire and keep excellent staff. Sick place with sick HR as the driving force behind all the sickness. Many tribal members were fine, good people who, although supportive and kind, were powerless in the face of a sick operation. DO NOT TRUST HR EVER! They lie to you and everyone around you. I saw 16 people quit in disgust or quit before they got fired (because of psycho director) or straight out get fired for the smallest of matters by the Director. No loyalty for any staff person ever.. no matter how many years they were there and how many years they gave extremely good service and they genuinely cared about the tribal members they worked with. They (HR & Director) will throw you out on a dime for the smallest reason with senior administration and senior (political) tribal staff watching this all go on with extreme indifference. Abuse, neglect, indifference to the max. Almost everyone gets fired in this joint. Be sure of it.

    Advice to Management

GET RID of SICK HR who hire SICK DIRECTORS. who hire SICK MANAGERS. Start to work with your Seminole values so you can be in a good way to hire decent people who will stay long enough to develop valuable professional working relationships with tribal members to deliver with fruitful, effective, results in increasing education goals so your staff can BE OF GOOD SERVICE to THE TRIBE. ISN'T THAT WHAT YOU WANT?
