I have been working at Seneca Family of Agencies full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The staff, the kids, the families. It is such a community.. all working together to support one another and watch our clients thrive. I am part of one of the most dedicated, creative and inspiring group
of staff that could I have ever hoped for. The training and learning is ongoing and the administrative team is approachable, knowledgeable and "one of us." The teachers constantly find ways to engage and inspire our clients. In one word: COMMUNITY

Their developed pathways for further careers in unprecedented and I feel I am supported by supervisors to explore long term career goals in which Seneca encourages and supports (verbally and financially). This job has been life changing.

    Cons

We are a small school, so our impact could
Always extend further than our walls. Would
Love to explore ways to do that.

    Advice to Management

    Keep it up!

I have been working at Seneca Family of Agencies full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

There is a lot of freedom to propose new ideas and express creativity. The management team is very supportive and encourages personal growth.

    Cons

As with all non-profits, you are going to have to do a lot of multi-tasking. If your are not an adaptable person, this might not be the best fit for you. I personally love it and find it adds a lot to my career growth.

I have been working at Seneca Family of Agencies full-time

    Pros

I have been able to grow so much professionally here. I got great support for becoming a licensed clinician straight out of grad school and have had lots of opportunity for mobility and advancement. I love the people I work with and feel very supported. I love the youth and families we serve.

    Cons

Like any non-profit job it can always feel like there's more to do than time to do it. It's easy to feel the pull to work too much and I did that early on in my career, but I learned to set better boundaries for myself and work sustainable hours, and I do feel there is support for that.

    Advice to Management

Keep leaning into supportive training for supervisors. I've had a lot of great supervisors and a couple less than stellar.

I have been working at Seneca Family of Agencies part-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Supports and values staff
    Opportunity for professional development
    Strong values around social justice
    Strong advocacy for clients
    Values cultural diversity
Supportive of staff who are parents
6 weeks of vacation per year

    Cons

The clinical work is very challenging. In many cases, clients are suffering from severe trauma as well as depression, anxiety and drug/alcohol addiction. Most clients are affected by poverty and have had long histories with child welfare and criminal justice system. Seneca staff have the added burden of interfacing with these systems (probation, public education and child welfare) that tend to be less progressive and clinical in their approaches to working with children and families and resistant to change.

    Advice to Management

In my experience management is constantly soliciting ideas from staff to improve the quality of the work environment.

I worked at Seneca Family of Agencies full-time

    Pros

    - supportive supervision
    - friendly and welcoming staff
    - efficient and organized company infrastructure
    - responsive IT support

    Cons

    - the hardest clients I've ever worked with (even harder than inpatient psych)
    - as a community-based clinician, I had to put myself into dangerous situations and was even injured on the job
    - way too much documentation
    - I often got the impression that billing (for funding) was more important than the actual client work
    - the behavioral model is not one-size-fits-all and, I found, often shortchanged clients

I have been working at Seneca Family of Agencies full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

AMAZING coworkers, really strong values of the agency, which are always the backbone of decisions made. Very generous with PTO. Four weeks per year! Supervisors really value you taking time for yourself.

    Cons

Really hard work. Often as a Support Counselor, you work 9-10 hour days at least several days per week. On-Call shifts are really challenging. Lots of turnover.

    Advice to Management

Be clear with expectations from the get go.
