Pay is low and difficult to make significant pay increase
Thank you very much for being part of the Seneca family and your years of service. It is a value of ours to appreciate our employees and always make sure they are heard. Seneca is an organization with hard workers and hard work. We have a strong ethic of promoting from within the agency, and I am proud of how many of our leaders, including our CEO started in entry level positions and worked their way into leadership. We invest a great deal in training and developing our people, and we strive to provide a wide range of opportunities for growth and advancement. Human Resources

99% of the employees are the greatest, most genuine people I've ever met. The work itself can be very fulfilling.
Cons
Pay was low but reasonable compared to other similar organizations. It seemed that some teams could be clique-y.

Overall great place to work

Seneca's values resonate throughout the organization's wide range of programs. My coworkers are some of the most dynamic and kind people I have ever met. I get to go to work every day and work for a mission that I believe in. The day-to-day work can be hard, but it can also be very rewarding.
Cons
I am looking forward to seeing more diversity in the highest levels of management and leadership. Pay and benefits are comparable to other non-profit work, but it is difficult (if not impossible) to live in the Bay Area on the entry-level wages offered.

Working at Seneca has many pros such as: getting to work with really amazing families, overall staff is very friendly and dedicated to providing clients with great services. Weekly supervision is reliable and a priority within programs. Pretty good benefits including vision, dental and 5 weeks PTO (includes sick time).
Cons
The job is very emotionally draining and often times supervisors are disconnected from what the work is like on the ground. Pay is low and difficult to move up to a higher position without your masters degree. Agency lacks diversity and does not have adequate training and conversations around cultural differences between providers and client's being served.

Pros
Excellent health care benefits
Cons
Highly stressful and little pay. There is also a lot of traveling that they don’t prepare you for. Travel will take up the bulk of your time.

Here at Seneca, we’re proud to provide services at locations that are most convenient for children and families, which sometimes includes locations that can be far away from our administrative offices. The effect of drive time on our employees is a topic that we’ve been discussing at the director level. We are considering how to best prepare our employees for the impact of meeting families where they are, instead of asking them to come to us. Thank you for taking the time to share your experience! Pros
Nice coworkers and decent benefits..
Cons
You are expected to do a TON of extra work that isn’t part of your job description for low pay and no raises, at least if you’re an admin staff. Doesn’t matter if your workload increases dramatically, admin staff, especially QA managers, are not compensated fairly. You will cover vacant positions without compensation. I don’t accept the “we’re a nonprofit” excuse when the agency bends over backwards to pay clinical staff well and to give them raises. The number of times clinical staff were given raises in comparison to admin is concrete proof. It just happened again within the past month or so. How demoralizing and demeaning. Stop saying Seneca values equity when you know that’s not true otherwise the pay and experiences of so many in QA would indicate otherwise. Also Seneca deems QA managers as milieu supervisors basically as their excuse to pay us less than program supervisors or just to avoid paying us better in general. We help manage SEVERAL programs whereas a program supervisor oversees one. The QA department is not clearly defined as a strategy to allow the agency and programs take advantage of our role. Seneca leadership will consistently talk about holding boundaries yet provide no support to QA in this manner, they need our roles to be vague and flexible to ensure someone can pick up any extra work. You’ll be part of many conversations where they say they’re trying to advocate for QA… yet, everyone in QA knows it’s a lie. No one believes the leadership is really trying. It’s something we’re told to pacify us and to make us feel seen. Several leaders acknowledged this has been an issues for years so then why didn’t they actually do anything? I’m doubtful that our new CEO cares either based off our meeting with her. We want action or the truth, spare us all the talk.

Thank you for being a part of the Seneca Family of Agencies team and for taking the time to provide this input. We are sorry to hear you are having a difficult experience in your position. We recognize the additional burden that sometimes falls on QA Team members due to vacancies and leaves. We aim to keep workloads balanced and ensure there is adequate administrative support consistent with the number of programs and clients served in each region. To support additional coverage needs due to open positions or leaves, we are currently hiring for a Floater QA Manager position and a Floater HIS position that we hope will somewhat alleviate this issue. You are correct that we have recently made strides to increase compensation for clinicians. Although we view our administrative departments as crucial in supporting the work with children and families, it is true that we, at times, have needed to prioritize increasing the clinician pay level to ensure we are able to provide the services we are contracted for. The previous agency wide pay increase benefited hourly staff and impacted the QA Manager positions as well. We are continually reviewing our pay scales and working our budgets to support competitive and fair pay for every position, including comparing salary scales across departments and other nonprofit organizations. Our budgets are based off the rates we achieve with our funding partners, and we regularly ask for increases to support the rising cost of doing business. In addition to pay increases, we encourage QA Managers and other hourly staff to accurately reflect hours worked on their timecards to ensure they are receiving overtime pay for all hours worked. We do recognize the importance of employees having clarity around their job expectations and responsibilities. If you have questions about your job responsibilities or would be willing to provide examples of responsibilities you feel are outside of your position, we encourage you to communicate directly with your direct supervisor, director and or you also may contact Lori Slominski, Director of HR. I have worked at Seneca Family of Agencies for 7 years. This is a great place to sharpen your skills as a clinician and be a part of team that cares about the work they do. If you're interested in working with children and families in traditional and non-traditional settings Seneca is the place to be. I've felt very supported in my efforts to get licensed and to attain more training and education because Seneca values staff development and wants the people that work for them to be well trained and informed. They also strive to support staff's efforts to promote within the agency and will work with you if that's a goal.
Cons
The work is very demanding and the pay is not great. The learning curve can be steep in some of the programs and sometimes there's not enough time given to new staff to adjust to the fast pace. The draw back to hiring within is that some of the management staff don't have the experience and the skills to effectively manage people.

Some of the advantages of working for this agency are their trainings and professional development.
Cons
The pay is severely low if you are an hourly employee or do not have a masters degree and license. Management makes it very clear that you are not to ask for any pay increases and that they are not interested changing this pay structure. When you are an hourly employee in the field or in an in person services program, you end up being asked (or just told a lot of the time) to do extensive amounts of work that are well beyond your pay grade and training with no additional compensation. There is an advertised “open door policy” for managers and supervisors however it really depends on the supervisor. The majority of the supervisors do not seem to really care about the needs of barriers faced by employees and are very invested in maintaining the status quo even if it is inequitable. There are a few good supervisors who are really solid scattered throughout the agency, I have only met one supervisor in my time there who was honest, caring, and equitable but I assume there are more. I worked under several different programs in different areas.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review and provide feedback. We are committed to and constantly working with our partners to ensure we have contracts that support raising staff pay and increasing our overall benefits package. Our supervisors are strongly encouraged to prioritize employee quality of life and allow room for growth and feedback. We are sorry that your experience at Seneca was not what you were looking for and that you felt unsupported by your supervisors. We appreciate your input and are always interested in hearing about the ways in which we can improve as an organization.
