I worked at Senergy full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Senergy is a fun place to work if one takes the job purely at face value. Work is interesting, offices are good and the general population are friendly. - Staff here are generally very friendly & there is a good camaraderie in the office (although much of this is built on 'Dunkirk spirit' when the latest 'initiative' comes in from topmanagement!) - Good technical knowledge among staff - Excellent... office locations - Fun work environment Remuneration is industry standard, more or less

    Cons

Working at LRSenergy is like living in Dubai: everything is shiny on the face of it, but scratch the surface you see that those in charge are hypocrites and everything is built on sand. Complain about it and you might wind up getting your head chopped off. - Reactive & grandstanding top management does not instill confidence and as such, the company never feels stable - Top management indulgences mean v.... high corporate overheads and 'us-and-them' atmosphere - Little chance of progression from the rank-and-file into upper management positions - 'Jobs for the boys' attitude at topmost level, regularly bypassing stated company policy and values - Despite their 'doing it differently' mantra, you're in for a tough future if you disagree with management Lack of career progression is a real killer. The top management group (which is both impenetrable and peacocking at the same time) appears to have poor vision and does not have the confidence of the staff. All this leads to v. high churn rate, disillusionment in longterm employees and poor financial performance. Poor financial planning & two rounds of poorly handled redundancies (starting *before* the oil price drop) has hammered staff morale while keeping the top people firmly in place.

I worked at Senergy full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

-Met some wonderful people who will be lifelong friends and people I would be happy to work with again. Unfortunately, one of the things we have in common is loathing of Senergy. The vast majority of these people have left. -There were pockets of the business where one could make a positive financial difference provided there isn't too much intrusiveness from upper management.

    Cons

-VP level and above was very cliquish and comprised of Scots or those who went to Scottish Universities. So much so, it wouldn't have been too much of a stretch to describe it as institutional racism. When trying to follow-through with an image of a "global company", the lack of upper management diversity ran contrary to that image and diminished credibility with clients. -There were very much a different set of... rules for upper management and the rest of the company. For example, the CEO was preparing the company for a workforce reduction recently and he told the masses he had done his part by "not having the company pay his rent anymore". -HR is used to keep the status quo of the above two points and when not, it failed miserably at trying to create process after process that was intended to motivate the employees, but did the opposite. For example, a process was put place to guide managers on the amount they can spend on gifts for employees for seniority milestones. This came out as "if you've been here five years, you can get up to £100 for your service". This (and other similar HR debacles) became a running joke. There were more of these processes at Senergy than with companies many times it's size. -The upper management did not know how to manage and did not seem to care to learn. In a management course for middle managers, the instructor was asked if the Senergy upper management would take the same class. The response was they were considering doing so in private since they don't think it would be appropriate for them to be seen taking such a class with employees.

    Pros

    Variety of work, nice coworkers

    Cons

Lack of progress, lots of 'busy work' with no real development path

    Advice to Management

The company is too protective of less experienced employees, to the point of restricting their exposure and potential development. You need to make the environment more attractive for professionals with less than 15 years of experience. The compensation is not bad, but cannot be compared to what is billed to the client. If the company had less overheads maybe benefits could be better and people would be happier.
