    Cons

Pay could be a bit better considering the cost of living. More respect for care partners.

I worked at Sentara Healthcare full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great co-workers, nice work environment, great benefits and decent pay.

    Cons

Many managers are untrained and unqualified to properly manage employees' and their careers.

    Advice to Management

Hire managers who are qualified to MANAGE employees and their career paths. Do not promote individuals to management positions just because they have been with the company for a long time.

I have been working at Sentara Healthcare full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The company tries hard to communicate with and listen to employees. Leadership is very engaged in the community, strategic planning and moving the business forward in a changing and challenging market. Financial stability and generating value for all stakeholders are key accomplishments.

    Cons

Pace of work is sometimes a problem, as employees are challenged to increase productivity in an environment where there is an increased demand for services without improvements in capacity.

    Advice to Management

Regard pace of work issues, help middle management with better planning.

I worked at Sentara Healthcare part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Starting with this company pays well, education and flexibility. Discount copay, Steady Pay great PAL and sick pay. Location management is for the most part stable not a lot of change there. They a spreading out to other states.

    Cons

If you get a degree during employment it is not easy to transfer within the company to do new adventures. With expansion it turned from patient care to profit and get more out of the employee without suitable compensation. It really is a shame.

    Advice to Management

Don't assume people already employed By Sentara will be picked up by one of the other locations. I found Non-Sentara Applicants had better success then those already in the system.

Benefits; annual pay raise; annual bonus; working environment; quality of people; quality of the company; the companies mission.

    Cons

Lack of job cross-training; training internal replacements to take higher positioned jobs within the company; lack of holidays off.

    Advice to Management

Grow your employees for internal promotions. You need a personnel management training program, and if there is one it needs to be available to all employees and should be better advertised.

I worked at Sentara Healthcare full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Some offices were fair and enjoyable which made the company wonderful to work with.

    Cons

After 15 yrs and going to certain site for 5 months terminated due to personal feelings with no work ethic ....leave personal feelings at home..My tenure sholuld spoken for itself!

    Advice to Management

Stop these Supervisor's from havjng FAVORITES in the office which leads to alot of gossip snd personal feelings. Which leads to unjust termination of good employees and the Gossping Supv. and friends still unjustly employed!
