I have been working at Sentara Healthcare full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Pay is satisfactory and tends to increase with the market. Raises are done yearly for the most part, with bonuses for good/excellent performance which is good

    Cons

Time off/vacation/sick leave is horribly done and is all about making money for the company
Vacation time for holidays is horrible- no time for family

    Advice to Management

If you want your employees to be happy, give them time with family

I have been working at Sentara Healthcare full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

It is a great environment to work in. My team works really well together and provides a very cohesive atmosphere. The pay is also fair.

    Cons

We work very hard and are always very busy, which is not always a bad thing. Our duties have increased, but staff has decreased. It took a while for upper management to realize how busy we are throughout the year.

    Advice to Management

I believe the company is headed in a good direction. It's a large company, so no advice I could provide would be helpful since it would only be applicable to my area.

I worked at Sentara Healthcare full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I was blessed to work with an amazing rehab team in the Sentara Life Care community. All of my colleagues truly cared about the wellbeing of each and every patient. It was a great learning experience for a first job!

    Cons

Like all SNFs they're focused on productivity and their bottom line. By the time I left there was a big push to meet productivity as well as treat patients at ultra high and very high RUG levels whether even when they weren't necessarily appropriate for it. Also didn't want you to work overtime, but took from your PTO if you worked under 40 hours. But still had to maintain productivity even if a patient refused or went out for medical reasons.

    Advice to Management

Don't have conflicting goals such as requiring to have therapists meet productivity but also wanting therapists to ensure they're not working over or under 40 hours. Do what's best for patients and not always your bottom line.
