Good community hospital

Pay of the check variety
Cons
Administration is very reactive not proactive

Pros
Sentara is a great place to work. Can't say much about the dark corner that is " Courier Services". Low morale, outdated procedure, no appreciation for drivers. Senior employees refuse to change yet run the show. Worst of all was the communication between employees. Grown people who refuse to communicate directly. Always back biting emails instead. On my first day I was warmly welcomed and quickly warned that I would be "iced out" by senior staff. Best part was working with the drivers. The sweetest and most hardworking folk ever. They deserve more recognition. Everyone else here just trying to float to retirement doing the least possible.
Cons
Work culture is the poorest I've experienced. Employees are bitter. Take turns changing the break room TV from CNN to Fox news just to be snarky. Other areas of Sentara are not the same. Just here. This is where dreams go to die.

Pros
I had the most amazing clinical admin nurse bosses they were the best! So much learning as nursing student and working as NCp
Cons
the worst troll nurses night shifters they would take over 3 hour lunch breaks from1AM-3:30AM, and put all the pressure on NCPs Ashliegh, Karlee, and and Indian one the trio were extreme trolls making fun of ncps looking down at them and in the morning they would complain to day shift nurses that the ncps are no good of help that they don't do anything. but it's the ncps that run like dogs all night! the African American nurses were the best and the most humble nurses I have ever worked with, and a white girl that did lpn first then RN and bsn and was getting her masters and working there short term - she was the only reason I kept going to work and was praying to get my patients with her because she was nothing like those 3 nurses. I am forever grateful for nurses like her - treating ncps with respect and not trolling them. some nurses there will end up giving you anxiety and panic attacks with the amount of toxicity and trolling if you complain more than once they think you are the problem also because they don't wanna lose those nurses because ncps are always replaceable.

Great Opportunities to Learn & Grow
May 28, 2023 - Regional Director in Norfolk, VARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Sentara has opportunities for those seeking career growth. Colleagues are great, and hybrid/remote work is available.
Cons
Lack of transparency and trust of Operations Leaders. Does not learn from previous mistakes and continues to make costly decisions that have longstanding consequences. Still very siloed in communication/decisions making.

We have an awesome team and work with wonderful nurses and doctors.
Cons
Sentara is willing to let experienced staff leave to pay large amount of money for travelers, and the quality of care and satisfaction of patients and staff are lower

Great Healthcare Company
May 8, 2023 - Experienced Senior Medical Technologist in Suffolk, VARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Great pay. Nice management to work with/for
Cons
Stretched thin specialist who train you which leads to rush/inadequate training. Heavy work loads for senior techs and specialists sometimes are unrealistic.

Organization has list its way; IT group is broken
May 2, 2023 - IT LeaderRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
The company has a grand history, and tries to serve a meaningful healthcare purpose in the communities it supports.
Cons
Senior leadership continues to decay over the years. IT leadership is highly dysfunctional; they are all focused on resume building. Morale in IT group is abysmal; staff have no trust, respect or confidence in leaders. Communications are absent, inaccurate or misleading.
