    Pros

    Cons

The company does a poor job at investigating employee complaints and gratis is given unfairly.

I worked at Sephora full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The work itself is easy and can be really fun. Sharing makeup tips and tricks with clients and cast members really makes the day fly by. Trainings are great if you're passionate about what you do. Meeting new people everyday means you're never bored. Everyone contributes to the company goals which means meeting them is slightly easier than a commission based job.

    Cons

The worst thing about working at Sephora is the way upper management treats people. There are plenty of unprofessional managers in the company and they get moved around rather than let go. Those same managers go on to cause problems for good workers. There really is no "checks and balance" system the way there should be because there are so many looking out for themselves. I've seen so many great people get lost in the mix and let go because of unqualified, immature and unprofessional managers.

    Advice to Management

Stop hiring managers (store directors, specialists and leads) that don't care about their people. If you care about people and treat them well, they will work hard, go above and beyond for you and grow in the company. You will always exceed goals. You need managers that will develop their cast members and allow them to grow. Stop the favoritism. Take employee complaints seriously and stop turning people against each other. Grow up.

I have been working at Sephora full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Fun place to be if you love makeup and skincare. Sephora always carries the latest, most buzzed about products.

    Cons

The only way to move up is to schmooze upper management. After on-boarding there is no more career development. Leads drive the business while exempt management sit in the back. New hires tend to come from outside the company rather than promoting within.

    Advice to Management

Live the values you claim to live by.

I worked at Sephora full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The education that they train their employees, GRATIS (duh, its one of the best parts about the job) being around other people who enjoy makeup.

    Cons

The hours (they're based around goals that are being meant, I was a fulltime employee but I could get 29 hours on week, and another week 40 hrs) The management is all over the place, no one is on the same page. High pressure sales (if you arent into selling, this is not the job for you, b/c management is always breathing down necks to sell, sell, sell)

    Advice to Management

Actually care about your staff, we are the ones who are selling the product and getting numbers up.

I worked at Sephora part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Work life balance is the best I've seen in retail
    - Gratis is an opportunity to try on and get to know products.

    Cons

    - Work life balance in retail will always suck
    - The pay is not sustainable
    - The hours are extremely inconsistent

    Advice to Management

    - Educate yourself on other cultures to make the place a habitable work environment. It was difficult to be the one that everyone came to in order to dump ignorant questions about people of other cultures.

    Pros

Great people and work environment. It was one of the best places I've worked at and would highly recommend others to this company.

    Cons

The hours can be long, specifically during holiday. However, they keep it fun.

    Pros

All around a fantastic job, fantastic perks and bonuses.
Great company that takes good care of their employees.

    Cons

The management at my particular store was terrible. There were repeat offenses involving bullying and discrimination.
ALL leads and managers would constantly gossip about other employees making it very tense and uncomfortable to work there after a while.
On call shifts were very difficult to manage and shifts were extended as punishment for employees on occasion.

I have been working at Sephora part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The people and clients are amazing, the pay is nice and the gratis is great. The artistic talent that you get to work alongside is inspiring. The passion that your cast members have for their job wears off on you as well.

    Cons

Sometimes right after holiday payroll gets tight so there will be less hours to go around. It picks up in about a month and after that it was fine. I also received a $1 raise when I was asked to stay on after holiday!

    Advice to Management

Company wise, you should have more in store only exclusive products to drive more traffic into brick and mortar stores. Online is amazing and convenient but there's nothing that can compare to the in store experience that sephora and its cast provides to clients.
