I have been working at Sephora full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

SEPHORA, unlike many retailers really strives to live by their values. I have never had a career in which work/life balance is a priority to the company that I work for. Direct management strives to develop cast from new hire to exempt. There are always a challenge and there is always something new to learn.

    Cons

I am currently 100% fulfilled in my career path.

    Advice to Management

Continue to ensure values are in action! Our values set the pace for building the best cast in the beauty business!

I worked at Sephora full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The opportunity to help clients discover their most confident selves. Creative wonderland. Employee discount.

    Cons

Poor management bred bad employee behavior and a hostile working environment. Dealing with bad attitudes and clique behaviors on a daily basis. Key positions were held by bullies-long term. Anyone that was a truly good person and employee was run off by the bullies. It was very hard to build friendships due to these behaviors as many were turned against you before you could establish a good rapport. Any teamwork that existed functioned only to get the job done quickly so we could go home in a timely manner. The training, which is touted as being a huge deal at Sephora was not available to me. Again, this was a reflection on managements capabilities, or lack thereof. Favorites were made by management and given special treatment simply because they kept secrets and wouldn't tattle on the SD to the DM. Because of the power this gave the appointed favorites, the SD would not do anything to keep them in line or work with them to help grow and build them professionally in fear of their retaliation. So the SD was actually empowering the bullies and ensuring a bully culture. I joined thinking I would be building a career. What I got instead was bad memories from grade school magnified times 1000. The saying goes you are only as good as your weakest link. When people go on and on about how fabulous this company is for education and culture, they should remember this. Some of us never had these opportunities and fled due to self preservation. No one should have to work in or be expected to return to that kind of environment. Where was the DM? I will forever regret my timing to join this organization and to also alert corporate of the hostile working environment. Never take a position if you feel leadership is lacking. Their roots run deep and what they have planted will poison your efforts.

    Advice to Management

DM's: Spend time with your store associates. People should not fear going into work or become physically ill thinking about spending an 8 hour day in the company of bullies. This should not be tolerated. When you have a weak manager and you've decided to keep them on, look out for those under them. They suffer the most. Look at who is being developed. Is it just one person? Why? Why isn't the SD able to keep a solid cast and develop happy employees? Why won't they document the bad behavior of the bullies so they can either work to improve or be let go for the health of the team?

    Pros

    Gratis, fun atmosphere, decent pay.

    Cons

Gratis sometimes sucked, would be sent home after working only a few hours if the store did not meet a certain dollar amount in sales.

-"Mean Girl" syndrome constantly, especially coming from the older women, and a ton of backstabbing
    -Promotions based on favoritism

-Confused on how Calvin McDonald was Top CEO of 2016, he is nothing special but a step up from previous CEO

    Advice to Management

Middle management is way too fat and inexperienced. Invest in better systems.

I worked at Sephora full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Best part of working for Sephora is their values and their people! The values they instill in the company are lived everyday in-store. Not to mention, the leadership they provide to all levels of the career path are alike no other. Can not speak enough about the development they do with their people, their products and how much goes into the relationship with clients. Would still be working for the company if I didn't move out of state and to an area that doesn't have a Sephora location.

    Cons

    Honestly, none...I won't change a thing.

    Advice to Management

Keep on continuing to revolutionize the retail industry with innovation, your people and your values. Thank you for the best opportunity of my career!
