    Disapproves of CEO

I worked at Sequenom Laboratories full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Free food. Team outings. Good benefits, and a paycheck. That's it.

    Cons

Horrible management. No communication. Management, team leads, supervisors DO NOT know what they are doing. HIGH TURNOVER RATE. NO ONE STAYS. The little people get blamed for everything. Accessioning department is the worst, new employee hazing, lack of good training. Team leads and tenured employees do NOT pull their weight, puts their work on temps. TEMPS STAY AWAY, you will be treated horribly, permanent position will be hung over your head so that you have to work harder than anyone else, with no recognition. They hire temps with no desire to keep them. Sweatshop atmosphere. Childish highschool behavior and rumor mill. Cliquish and backstabbing. Employees befriend you to get information they can use against you. Other employees constantly watch you, make up lies, clock you on break time and lunch time and report you to supervisor and team lead. HR does nothing to remedy complaints, lies to cover up bad behavior. Overall HORRIBLE COMPANY.

    Advice to Management

Show appreciation to hard workers. Increase pay. Train better.

I worked at Sequenom Laboratories full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Some decent benefits, but no 401k match. A couple decent upper management folks remain, but the other bad management leaves damage done. Good pay, but only to stop the revolving door. I'm reeeeaaallly trying to be positive here.

    Cons

Constant lower level management shenanigans that trickle down lead a lot of smart low level folks to scratch heads. Lots of terrible decision making. Massive croonie-ism, clearly a game of favorites and ego. I've heard of many horror stories and lived through many myself. Many many negative findings from inspectors/regulators were not shared with the lab, so how can we even help management of we don't know what is going on? Management feigns subordinate involvement and communication. HR was no help at all, they were new, so they only wanted to do what management wanted.

    Advice to Management

Stop promoting based on politics. Promote those who are skilled and who deserve it, i.e.: understand what is actually happening in the lab first before making a decision. Tell the TRUTH. Treat people with RESPECT. Don't accuse people publicly before knowing all the facts. A bad attitude drives talent away. Answer questions when asked, and don't use a shroud of keeping people in the dark as a way of preventing their advancement. Don't use intimidation. A bad example of how a lab is run leaves an impression on young minds who think this is how it's done, then the young people go to other labs and spread the same bad habits. You guys are smart, but forget your brains. For shame!

    Pros

Our small subset of larger Sequenom Inc is like family. We work well together and have a great environment.

    Cons

The corporate office does not recognize our lab and is working to close it right now.

    Advice to Management

Recognize all your employees, and make decisions based on information and future ability, not on desires and hopes.

    Pros

Some nice facilities. San Diego is a nice place to hang occasionally.

    Cons

SD management consists of exceptional intellectuals with zero understanding of what goes on in the field. They fear what they can't see in front of them. Even when the metrics show positive results, the senior management team does not comprehend the customer facing interactions that seal and perpetuate the true business.

    Advice to Management

Respect the efforts made by those outside of San Diego. Much of the companies public success was made possible by these off-site warriors. These people are facing the customer directly and have insights meant to enlighten, not threaten.

I have been working at Sequenom Laboratories full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Sequenom offers very good benefits. Medical insurance is cheap for employee. You can get a flexible spending account. There's education reimbursement.

    Cons

Sequenom does not offer 401k matching. I would prefer to have that over their ESPP. Talent is definitely

    Advice to Management

    - no 401K matching
    - talent is not recognized
    - hired lots of incompetent people
    - communication is a mess

I have been working at Sequenom Laboratories full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Technology within the company is very advanced; amount of PTO awarded to us is spectacular, as well as the benefits are wonderful

    Cons

Upper management in the CLIA Lab doesn't really seem to have any idea about what life is like in the lab; there's a clearly defined hierarchy and if you don't fall in the top 10%, you're viewed basically as a work horse; things change so often in the lab without input from the ones doing all the processing; the turnover rate is enormous, clearly there's something thats going wrong...
