I worked at Serco Group full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

This is a hard one... I really didn't think it was great place. They did seem to be trying to improve in some aspects. For example, they brought back an education benefit that they had cut because enough people complained.

    Cons

Incompetent and disinterested managers. They don't go to bat for you. Mine did as little as humanly possible. He should have been fired. Also, they pretend like the company has morals when everyone in the organization knows it's BS from the way management at the top acts all the way down to supervisors.

    Advice to Management

Be real. Value your employees. Work for what you get.

    Pros

I liked my coworkers. The coffee mess. Good benefits. Enjoyed working for the person in charge near the end.

    Cons

Personal growth was often talked about but never followed through. There was no opportunities for new business, leading to no personal growth. Earlier management and senior management was not helpful.

    Pros

They give you the freedom to innovate and the structure in which to be productive. Employees have autonomy to pursue solutions the best way possible. This would not be possible in some of the government agencies which we support. So in effect we can be patriotic and smart at the same time.

    Cons

The benefits package is not as strong as, say, Google. It aligns with government contractors that are running at the margin.

    Advice to Management

I think senior management is doing a good job given the situation. Importantly, they maintain a strong staff dedicated to getting new business from the federal government. I would advise patience and staying the course. I would also advise an aggressive effort to install technologies to reduce travel expenses since fuel costs will continue to $7/gallon for Jet-A and gasoline.

I have been working at Serco Group full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The company offered a professional position with frequent travel and no micromanagement. The flexibility was great.

    Cons

Management did not express their insight and therefore feedback on work was rare. It made work more difficult than necessary. It also left field team without needed information .

    Advice to Management

Treat field staff as equals because there are amazing people on the teams!

I worked at Serco Group full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Google experience taught me a lot. Great Communication skills, how to Multi-task, I learnt how to handle difficult and frustrated Chinese/Japanese customers and Computer skills and how to work under pressure to meet our deadlines. Faster Growth only by Performance. Simply loved the benefits and working at Serco Google. Cheers Team.

    Cons

Food was not that great but the management tried to change it. Senior management never fulfilled their promise about hikes and such.

    Advice to Management

I loved the Company and I am glad I worked there. Wish the company did not shut down (Zagat Process) but I used the experience to move to New Zealand today, so am grateful.

    Pros

Serco is a trusted company but the job is not guaranteed only until they have the contract. So, only work as a contractor. Work environment is good, groups collaborating with each other.

    Cons

Sometimes long working hours. Pay is not good, below average, no overtime paid, no bonuses. Management is sometimes chaotic, no budget for trainings.

    Advice to Management

Reward high performing employees and treat them better.
