    Pros

Hard to identify any real pros. At the very most one can say it prevents a gap in employment on your resume.

    Cons

There are so many but I'll try to provide some insight.
    1) Lies - everything that comes out of your manager's mouth neefs to be taken with a grain of salt. Rules change from day to day. COMPENSATION is based on what SCI does not take away. You are penalized with 15% of your commission withheld after following manager's directive to provide a discount. If you have a problem with the paycheck you receive a game called I'll submit a "heat ticket" to resolve the issue and the manager never follows up with you. If you continue to question another "heat ticket " will be submit and a resolution is never made.
    2) The amount of hours you'll work will range from 50 to 60 hours a week. 60% of these hours are from non compensated and non sales related tasks. If you can not support your family for at least 9 months at minim wage of 40 hrs per week then DON'T CONSIDER THIS POSITION.
    3) A philosophy of everyone can be replaced is strictly followed. Therefore turnover is extremely high and leaves remaining staff left to complete noncompensated tasks. Therefore uncompensated tasks go from 60% to 85%.
    4) Family Service Counselors are forbidden from taking a bottle of water. The water in the pipes comes out with a ugly hue. Lunch breaks are a joke. If you try to eat in the break room the manager will come to you and ask "What do you have going on?" Or "Do you hear the phone ringing?" Forget about lunch altogether and dinner on your call nights.
    4) Management is ny intimation. Sales meetings are painful as you listen to the sales manager publicly humiliate your peers.
    5) You fell horrible after making a sale because you know you just ripped off a family struggling financially and emotionally to dp the best for their loved one. Prices are alot higher than competition and quality of goods/services sold are equal or below the competitors.
    6) Sales techniques utilized are antiquated. Computers used are old, non equiped to handle company's expectation. Software is antiquated.
Management operates in 1960s. They have no concept of generating internet sales. Try googling funerals in the area and SCI locations are in the bottom of the list.

    Advice to Management

Don't allow quotes that "We are a cash cow" make it into the national media.
Come into the 21st century. Redesign the way business is done.
PAY YOUR EMPLOYEES A FAIR SALARY.
Hire and try managers who know what their doing, care about what their doing and want to do the best for their community. Another word hire socially conscious, morally upright individuals. The time for the good ole boy's club is over.

    Pros

Paid vacation. Paid sick days. Paid holidays. 401K. Opportunities for advancement. Job transferability nationwide. Set working hours. Never work nights. Yearly raises.

    Cons

Can be difficult to understand the many roles within the company. May need to go up the chain of command to get things done and a bad location manager can make things very difficult.

    Advice to Management

Go to bat for your employees. Upper management will not know what we need unless the location managers communicate with market directors. Ask for employee input on problems and possible solutions.

    Pros

Large company. Great chance to grow if you are related or friends with management.

    Cons

Hard to grow when there is so much family. Don't know who you can trust because of the relationships.

    Advice to Management

Maybe look at market. Maybe set a policy, so this does not become family run like it used to sales management is not trained.

I have been working at Service Corporation International part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Nothing immediately comes to mind. Benefits are pretty good. Free lunch on occasion. Enjoy helping customers who come in needing help planning funerals for their loved ones.

    Cons

Employees gossip about one another, no cohesiveness and they are disrespectful to each other. Very toxic environment. Job responsibilities are not balanced correctly.

    Advice to Management

Stop always looking at the bottom line. Get new management on local level who will set a standard of not only getting more involved in the community, but also building a better team. Once that is done you will notice that if you pay people a more fair wage and the turnover will decrease.

    Pros

Lots of jobs available as turnover is rampant. Good place to work if you keep your mouth shut and don't disagree with the "policy of the day".

    Cons

If your motivated by fear and intimidation this is the place for you. Sr. Management and HR are more concerned with employee lawsuits and covering their behind!

    Advice to Management

Local and middle management should have proficiency in the area of responsibility. Sales and Sales
Management have inordinate level of influence in daily operations. Those with a professional license seen as a necessary evil. Sad way to manage!

    Pros

Some co-workers are great to work with. Also enjoy helping families.

    Cons

No support from middle and upper management. The further up the food chain you look, it seems the IQ level goes down. Staff meetings are regularly cancelled. Many at management level are out of touch with reality. Lots of gossip and back stabbing. Company generates lots of business for companies like Workopolis.

    Advice to Management

Hard to know where to begin.

Get rid of the upper managers who have been working the system for far too long

Take a look at some of your assistant managers who sexually harass and cheat and steal sale contacts for themselves
Remember that family service counselors need to be compensated better
