I have been working at Service Corporation International (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Working to help people that are going through a moment of loss and uncertainty can be very rewarding. Many times it really gives you a purpose of why you do what you do.

    Cons

This company has many cities/markets that are managed by an individual local manager/director. I am not sure what the culture is in other markets because I only worked for San Antonio. Talking to other employees in other cities during company wide events, though, I realized that my market was very different in a bad way. It almost seemed as if departments were pitted against each other. The main manager wanted to have his nose in everything, so he created an environment where employees were constantly talking bad about each other to him or other managers. It became a very hostile environment. You began to see an exodus of people that had been with the company for many years either retire or leave. Very sad because the industry was awesome.

    Advice to Management

The company itself needs to set an exit interview program performed by an external source and find out why people are leaving. It maybe a problem that they don't realize they have and great talent maybe leaving the company. You train people so that they leave and apply that investment elsewhere. Many times the best assets that a company has is not a building or walls, but the people that make a difference.

    Pros

Working with families and helping them during hard times

Being beat up for no sales and made to work extra hours without pay. After a short time you are straight commission and management makes you work extra with no chance of pay.

    Advice to Management

    Pay your employees a base.

I have been working at Service Corporation International full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Good co workers, flexible schedule,

    Cons

Terrible top management, they have no idea what they are doing. They treat their people really bad and only care about sales and making a profit. Ey claim to be all about serving and helping families, but all they talk about is sales and making a buck.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of the good ol boys and hire some talented people. Treat your employees better.
