I worked at ServiceSource full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The workday can be relatively laid back, and my manager was personable and made sure to take the brunt of any client drama. The people in the work environment were phenomenal; it quickly felt like a family and was very hard to leave, despite many issues with the job. Parking 24/7 in downtown Nashville when I was there, which was an added bonus. Management is usually very flexible with hours and outside involvement with other activities.

    Cons

The work itself on the Cisco team was not rewarding at all. Hardly any helpful, realistic training was given for our "expansion" that helped us reach out to partners and customers. Our position often felt like the middle man to the middle man - an unnecessary role that resulted in hardly any responses ever from the partners and customers. My manager frequently would surprise us with a previously unstated expectation, in response to Cisco getting upset about something. Managers usually have never been in our exact positions, and therefore don't really know how to do our jobs effectively. If the idea of being thrown to the wolves to figure it out on your own sounds appealing - with your success ENTIRELY dependent on factors outside of your control - then this job would be perfect. Most of the time, hardly anyone seems to care how successful you actually are; all they want to do is keep Cisco happy. If Cisco's mad, the job gets stressful, but as soon as Cisco stops watching, management at ServiceSource stops caring what you're doing. Expectations constantly change, so it's very, very hard to get invested in the work. Pay is also very low in comparison to others in the software industry, but great benefits.

    Advice to Management

Provide training programs that simulate actual sales motions that your reps will be undergoing. Consistently expect solid work performance from your employees. The constant switch between caring and not caring, and encouraging practices that don't actually help these particular sales motions (call minimums) makes it hard to truly care and become invested in the work.

I have been working at ServiceSource (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Relaxed culture, proximity to great eateries and venues, good entry level job, but once you've gotten the experience, get out.

    Cons

A lot of management lacks professionalism and skills to properly lead a team, pay, disorganization, micromanagement

    Advice to Management

Make an effort to learn more about the accounts you manage, think outside of the box, not every team can be managed with a call quota-approach

    Pros

This job used to be a really good first job and get you exposure into the sales world. I met a lot of great people and have learned a lot. You will never feel stressed with this job.

    Cons

This place has become very difficult to work for. They are constantly looking for reasons to not give you a good bonus and have a lot of rules. They also give promotions to people who know nothing about managing besides micromanaging but somehow become a "strategic sales manager".

    Advice to Management

Stop trying to make this a call center

I worked at ServiceSource full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Relatively easy job to get with no experience.

    Cons

High turnover. You don't really have a ton of control over renewals, and sometimes it felt like the amount you closed in a given quarter had more to do with luck than anything else.

    Advice to Management

Invest in competent people instead of relying so much on temp agencies and dirt-cheap new grads.

    Pros

    - Great environment
     - can have fun with team depending on manager
     - very involved with charity organizations
     - decent amount of PTO

    Cons

    - harder process to be promoted
     - compensation is only tiered to account load on specific teams
     - you are always the middle man

    Advice to Management

Focus on giving rewards to people who hit their numbers and not those who make the most calls.

    Pros

Loved my coworkers- tons of hardworking driven people to surround yourself with.

    Cons

    Micromanage and favor certain employees.

    Advice to Management

It's not a popularity contest. Some of your best employees are leaving because they see less for people moving to management.

    I worked at ServiceSource full-time

    Pros

Great job to get right out of college. Not really a sales position since it's renewals, so it's more of an account management role, which means you're not making cold calls.

    Cons

Management is sometimes out of touch with the accounts and depends on the reps to be the real leaders of the team. Sales operations is not very well aligned with the sales team, so they're always butting heads.

    Advice to Management

Have better communication between sales and sales operations. The teams need to be working together, not have completely different goals.
