    Pros

Great benefits, great people, most importantly great mission.

    Cons

    Ongoing changes and outsourcing services

    Advice to Management

Having excellent management skills allows you to maintain positive, hardworking and dedicated employees. High turnovers usually means there's somethings wrong with management. Pay attention and make positive changes.

    Pros

    team work and overtime opportunities

    Cons

stressful at times with being short staffed

    Advice to Management

accommodate to your experienced staff that works hard instead of hiring new staff first.

I worked at Seton Healthcare Family full-time

    Pros

    Competitive pay for Austin area
    403 b matching
Help the less priveledged community get care

    Cons

Very lean staff leads to very stressful working environment and yet the same standards apply as if department was fully staffed
Work schedule is not balanced and standardized (except administrative type jobs)
    No exit interview/bitter separation
    Health insurance could be better

    Advice to Management

Too much stress on anything will eventually break, layoffs aren't always the answer.

I have been working at Seton Healthcare Family full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    good supervision
    collaborative atmosphere
great place for learning on the job
    tons of services for people
    good insurance
    Local management is great!

    Cons

Ascension's (company that owns Seton) communication with staff is pretty poor and vague goals that aren't specific to a department. Not a ton of local control regarding clinic decision making, becoming more bureaucratic.

Having to call Minnesota for HR needs

Tech support is not good - if you're non essential equipment breaks and doesn't impact patient care you're going to wait for a while before anything gets done and tech support we do get frequently does not resolve the issue (computers, phones, faxes, internet access, email, HR information, time-card issues, etc...)

    Advice to Management

Keep on doing what you're doing

I have been working at Seton Healthcare Family full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Fantastic teamwork between nurses and CAs, caring for vulnerable populations, kind and understanding direct supervisor

    Cons

No understanding from high-up management, the hospital claims to listen to nurses yet dismisses concerns and overlooks issues for the bottom line. Seldom lunch breaks, little respect from physicians

I worked at Seton Healthcare Family full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The salary was very competitive. The people I worked with were a great group overall. It was a fun atmosphere most of the time.

    Cons

It was very disorganized. We had a new project every other month which seemed to be 180 degrees different than the last project we were given. The director also played favorites. If she liked you, you were golden. If not, watch out. She would bad mouth you to others in the organization.

    Advice to Management

Be direct with associates. If there is an area that associates need to improve, tell them. It may seem difficult at first but it benefits both parties in the long run.

I have been working at Seton Healthcare Family full-time

    Pros

It is a very wonderfully challenging job. With so many opportunities to learn. The nurses, the Doctors. And the Physicians assistants are all amazingly kind, understanding, and treat everyone with respect.

The skills you attain working for seton are top notch. And so important. It is a place I will never regret working for. I have found that on a daily basis they give you every option available to go higher and add to your skills.

I love my job. And I love working for seton. I would suggest those starting out in the medical field, apply here.

    Cons

Some of the MA's I work with are petty, they are mean, and talk about each other, they make assumptions about patients that they are not trained or qualified to make. And are constantly looking for an opportunity to get people involved in their side talk. I can't stand it. And it is very disappointing and hard to be around. I know and I hope it is not like this all over seton. But it has been really upsetting. They come off as racist, rude, and treat me and others as if they do not matter. I didn't sign up for this sort of high school mentality. And I hope that someone higher up notices it, and eliminates this from the job setting I am in.

    Advice to Management

Pay attention. If you have one section of a seton medical office with a constant rotation of medical assistants. There is a reason. The problem is probably not the NEW MA's.

    Pros

Good work / life balance here.

    Cons

It's difficult to put a positive spin on the ongoing integration of Seton into the Ascension network.
