Look at creating some local/regional jobs in Florida.

I worked at Shaffer Trucking (Less than a year)

    Pros

Good Help with dispatch, and maintenance was timely at select terminals

    Cons

Not so good with maint. service at most terminals, and overall slow freight with many being brokered loads.

I have been working at Shaffer Trucking full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Decent equipment, pretty good pay for beginners. If you ask for miles you usually get them. For the most part dispatchers work with you.

    Cons

Breakdown takes way too long to do anything. there's no excuse for being on hold for 40 minutes over a blown tire. Qualcomm messages are not returned promptly. You have to ask repeatedly for miles.

    Advice to Management

    Answer the damn phones man.

I have been working at Shaffer Trucking full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Pay is good, benefits are OK. Equipment is good and taken care of. Not much else on the pros

    Cons

If home time is important to you, don't work here, they might as well not even ask you when you need your home time because it is the exception, not the rule that they ever get you home at the time you request it, making it impossible to make plans, you can't even make a Doctors appointment and expect to make it home on time to go. The only appointments they care about you making is your delivery time.

    Advice to Management

Much like your customers, our personal lives also require making and showing up to planned events and appointments when promised, we bust our butts for 28 days a month for you, getting us home for down time should be a priority.

I worked at Shaffer Trucking full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Very good PR and by the time you finish with the recruiter you can't wait to start as you are led to believe that's the best company in the world

    Cons

Safety department harassment and bullying drivers + no miles
While screening you they request your past tax reports (what does it have to do with safety? How are your tax reports, before working for them, their business?)
They force dash cam in trucks and then hares drivers to call them about once to twice a week about events that has to do nothing with safety.
They create stress and de-motivation for the driver.
Instead of focusing on the road and driving relaxed you will have to drive stress all the time and alert that your dash cam will not turn on recording as harassment by them will follow.
Great cent per mile rate but if you do only 1000 to 1,500 miles per week you can’t pay your bills (my first pay check was for $384
I don’t know how people write here that they have great equipment. I was assigned the day after my orientation on an International prostar with 360,000 miles and a DPF that was never serviced/cleaned/replaced. The exhaust was heating all the time and the truck’s cabin filled with fumes give the driver cancer.

    Advice to Management

You are hiring professionals - treat them like ones.

I have been working at Shaffer Trucking full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great miles, great dispatchers, pay is good, insurance is average, the Ryder and pet policy is outstanding, a very stable company

    Cons

They don't get you in time to keep important appointments, it always a day or two later than the date you requested to be home

    Advice to Management

Please keep in mind that your over the road drivers have a small window to see doctors, attend special family events and so forth, try harder to get us home on the dates requested, I have even put in a day earlier in hopes to get home on time and still missed my 10th wedding anniversary... Try harder
