I have been working at Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I feel like my contribution is valued, and that the company at large really cares about maintaining best practices for the treatment of residents. Much better company than any other in the area, that I am familiar with. They are moving toward a more structured system with more oversight, which is good (and is very needed).

    Cons

Not a lot of room for advancement. The only place to go is in to management and there are few positions available. Some of the houses need a lot more oversight from upper management because managers are putting practices in place (or letting staff do so) that are restrictive, mean or borderline abusive. This has been getting a lot better lately, and one of the worst offenders is gone now, but at least one is left. If you get stuck with a bad manager, you're going to have a bad time.

    Advice to Management

Go in to homes an observe the staff and managers occasionally. I have seen upper management be really surprised and upset by practices that have been going on in houses for months or years. It's great to trust your house managers, but trust AND verify.

    Pros

This hotel brand has very high standards of customer service. Employees work hard to provide consistency and attention to detail.

    Cons

Employee training is different than what I am used to.

    Advice to Management

Improve training to new employees and as a result, will create less problems for everybody.
