I worked at Shari's Restaurants part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Good training system I like that is very thorough and I like the no testing and no background check

    Cons

I don't think the employee discount is enough it is only 50 percent off meals and they cost a lot. I mean they are over priced as far as I am concerned.

    Advice to Management

Lower your meal costs for employees while they are working

    Pros

The discount was great and we got free lunch if it was under $10. You learn a lot on how to deal with customers as well.

    Cons

The training was pretty awful, pretty much had to learn everything on my own. The hours were awful and the manager was a creep and also quite rude.

I have been working at Shari's Restaurants part-time

    Pros

You make okay tips. That's about it.

    Cons

They're all about saving money. So, they want servers to do everything. They once contiplated...probably still do...that servers should wash dishes. Not only do you have to be able to handle section of up to 8 tables. You have to greet, seat, beverage, serve, exposure, make desserts and bus tables. Management is lazy and complains when they have to help. They don't know why they lose business. Why? Because customer service turns to poo when you can't fully serve your tables! Pie wednesdays. They took off certain pies on the menu. They haven't changed he menu though and they advertise season pies not in season. So every damn time someone does a lunch trip or every table on pie night I have to take the menu and do a whole shpeel on what we do and do not offer in pies because I hate disappointing people after they order their free pie. (It's been like this for 4 months) They paid for these remodels...but they didn't pay for new salad bar fridgeration and we have to put most of the prepped food in the walk in because it won't stay up to temp. when you keep having to run to the back and do everything up front...it takes time away from face to face customer time. They don't get it. It's all "card sign up" numbers. The health plan they offer is rediculous too. Uniforms are ugly. Why am i still working here!?

    Advice to Management

Management gets just as much crap. Dear corporate, if you thought about the experience that your guests recieve. You would have more business. and no....the surveys you set out don't work. Half of them are done by restaurant staff so they don't get in trouble.

    Pros

Shari's focuses on hiring employees that have distinctive personalities, great work ethics, and consistent promptness when it comes to scheduling. If your a social butterfly, or a work animal, or looking for an outlet for your O.C.D. this is the job for you.

    Cons

It can get busy suddenly or slow down painstakenly, adjusting accordingly and maintaining good time management will help
Warning!!!- there is a high chance you'll gain a sweet tooth for the delicious pies, but don't worry you can clean your palate with one of the many flavors of pie-shakes, that always compliments their freshly prepared, cooked, and seasoned steaks.

I worked at Shari's Restaurants part-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Very flexible with the schedule! Great co-workers who are now friends for life! Great guests~they become like family. I was so sad to see this restaurant close. The others nearby do not have the same "family" feel.

    Cons

Some of the managers were sub par over the years, but I understand the pay was not that great so I understand.

    Advice to Management

Hire to compliment your current team members. People who like one another and work well together will be better employees.

You get to make some amazing food for great people and starting wages are fair.

Not all workers work together. Some cooks are just out for themselves. It's messy and unorganized.

    Advice to Management
