I have been working at Shaw Communications (More than a year)

    Pros

Benefits, people you work with, stock options, games they play (to make people excited to come to work...)

IF the job is great - you will love working here.

    Cons

Micromanagement. Bosses not leaders. Tell you what to do; "do a better job, don't do what you did yesterday...." No clear direction on how to be better or improve. They use "fluffy" language. It's a numbers game and if you can't do it don't even apply (unless you are ok with lying to people and ruining the honest reputation you've built.)

Management will drop you in a heart beat without a clear explanation of why they are letting you go. Make sure you know the employment law because they don't actually know it. Prove them wrong and stand up for yourself.

Unreal expectations when reviewing applications for particular roles. You can have all the qualifications and skills for the exact role and still be denied an interview because you aren't friends with someone in the department you want to join. They say they will train an employee who is already within Shaw (if they are the right candidate.) You can have a degree and the work experience they require, yet it's a full-faced lie. Don't waste your time trying to achieve what you want within a company that lies to their own staff. If you are good at the job you currently do the chance to move on is minuscule because they want you to keep making them (upper management) look good.

    Advice to Management

Look at the 2017 unemployment stats in Alberta. Change your expectations as they are unrealistic. The job force is there, and people are a lot more qualified than you think.

Consider who YOU once were; the person with little experience who was able to learn and master the role, but who now has unrealistic expectations in the next hire. Most people are capable of learning and will exceed your expectations. Don't shut people down before actually seeing their quality of work. There's no doubt you've missed out on amazing people very capable of work due to your first impression of them. Don't be such a snob. Experience, qualifications and how a person interviews are minuscule ways to perceive a new hire. One hire known of in Shaw who was denied a position and hired the second time he/she applied impressed an entire department with his/her skills. First impressions mean nothing. You are not always right even if you think you are because of the position you hold.

Alberta has an 8.5% unemployment rate, no wonder the company has the turnover it does. 44,000 jobs available in Alberta, yet you list/post the same jobs continually. Learn from your mistakes. You are not getting the candidate pool you want because it's unrealistic. Your interview process is outdated. Grow up.

Headquarters is like an art museum.
Very good people to work with.
    Subsidized cable, phone, internet services.

    Advice to Management

Weed out the bully and toxic leadership. You really don't need them.

I worked at Shaw Communications full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Shaw was byfar the best company I worked for. They are true family to me! Upper management staff is highly qualified to give you the necessary training to achieve your goals and the goals very realistic and acheivable

    Cons

Employee engagement was not great primarily because of scheduling issues which they were working al hands on deck to resove before I left. A lot of change of directions at various points of the year and some that did not make sense to us all but our voices were always heard.

    Advice to Management

Don't throw away the people that gave you their all for unfounded reasons specially if no proof was available at the time. Don't believe everything you hear...Most people are out there to steal our jobs and will not stop at anything.

I have been working at Shaw Communications full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great people (most people are in their 20s, easy to find friends to hang out with)
    Fairly relaxed, chill environment
High pay for a very easy job

    Cons

Supervisors are very hit or miss, it seems like its just luck for the most part if you get a good one or a bad one
Scheduling is always variable - you can never have a guaranteed time off outside of call center hours, which makes it difficult to schedule things around work at times (for example volunteering once a week or taking a class one evening per week)
Being on time is a must. They are pretty strict about attendance / reliability / being on time.
