I worked at Shaw Group full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Higher than average salary. Good projects when they had them. Serious work environment.

    Cons

Too much overtime, and time for do-overs but not to get the project right the first go around. Lost credibility with clients do to overcharging relative to competitors, and hence lost projects and clients over it.

    Advice to Management

Pay more attention to value for the client, than to value for senior management stockholders.

I have been working at Shaw Group full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Location to my home and that's about it...

    Cons

Complete Facade of how things work in other corporate environments. "THE Owner" is/was the main problem and now that it was bought by an equal sized company with even more immature corporate structure it will not be my choice to stay. Pay raises are a joke! 1-2% every couple of years. No Career Path unless someone gets fired or dies. They hire you for your expertise and diversity, but don't want you to voice.
Very much still a Good Ole Boy Fab Shop mentality.

    Absolute Horrible Benefits!

HR dept is the worst yet...Full of snakes!

I've worked with a few good people, but most will never make eye contact or speak. In speaking with people that have been here for years they have all voiced their opinions of how downhill the company has gone.

    Pros

Well-organized. People respect deadlines which in turn helped me meet my deadlines. Detailed-oriented management which kept tight controls on project operations.

    Cons

Promote within the company. Most people in management postion are brought from outside companies. No bonuses for analysts.

    Advice to Management

Promote within and put incentive bonus plan in place for all employees.

    Pros

The company is very open to letting you work in different areas and fields and allowing you to go back to school and figure out what you want to do.

    Cons

The company does not always have the best interest of the employees at heart. The coporate world and the site world don't necessarily see eye-to-eye or get along.

I have been working at Shaw Group full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

You can gain some good experience in the field you want to work in, and as long as you work, your job is secure.

    Cons

The management is horrible - it is all based on friendships. None of them are educated or trained to be in a managerial position. Communication with employees is minimal. Pay is not competitive. Benefit package is ridiculous. You will get hired to do one thing, but if they find out you work hard, they will overload you with work and let others slack off. No opportunity for advancement if you don't know anybody. With the recent merger, many might not even have jobs. Raises are given every other year, and bonuses are unheard of.

    Advice to Management

REWARD YOUR GOOD WORKERS - OTHERWISE YOU WILL LOSE THEM :)
