    Pros

Pay, Can Pick Your Preferred Shift, Benefits.

    Cons

    Office politics, strict policies

If you have a child who tends to get sick a lot or who has health issues this job is not for you. However if you are able to come into work every day and are a good hard working person then this is right for you. Attendance is paramount for this company and if one person is calls out everyone feels it.

I have been working at Shaw Industries full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Pay and benefits are competitive. Upper Management have positioned the company well. Lots of really good folks to work for

    Cons

If you're over 40 and not already made substantial career growth you're probably not going anywhere. The company is very youth oriented. This is necessary to a point to maintain the future of the company. However, if the company encourages it's employees at any age to get a degree to be considereal for promotion there should be some room for those of us who put the work in to get our degrees while putting in 55-60 a week. The only thing I have to show for my degree is the debt it took me to get it. I wish I had never gotten my degree. Also nepotism is prevalent.

    Advice to Management

People over 40 have much to offer the future of this company, but if you have to be under 40 to be considered a future leader at Shaw Industries please stop encouraging those of us over 40 to get a degree. To invest that kind of time and money deserves consideration.

I have been working at Shaw Industries (More than a year)

    Pros

The people you work with our great. Shaw spends a lot of time helping you become a better employee by offering training classes. The benefits are what you would expect. The culture at Shaw and the value we place on individuals is what sets it apart from anywhere else. I started off interning with them for the past two years and have taken the next step with them after graduation. It has been a joy and I have even had the opportunity to sit in a roundtable discussion with Vance Bell.

    Cons

The only con I could think of would be the heat in the summer. It is a manufacturing environment so it is unavoidable. The Plants do many things though to help offset this with popsicles, water, and cool towels. The heat usually just last a week.

    Advice to Management

You are doing a good job so keep up the good work.

I worked at Shaw Industries full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great Company culture, despite being a large company once you meet a colleague you continue to cross paths over the years. Great training programs, where there is an appreciation to really invest in associates. Company stands behind products through excellent product support and too favorable claims support.

Despite being ultra conservative in strategies and action, there is a stated desire to move in the opposite direction; only time and activity will prove intentions to be sincere.

    Cons

Ultra conservative business strategies that drives over analysis and retards innovation. Always late to market trends by 5 or more years and when its decided to invest, investment is at a minimal in both necessary talent and capital, delaying product launch, diminishing product execution.

Too many home grown systems that does not serve market, internal or external customer needs.

Reporting structure of Customer Service within the supply chain hierarchy seems logical until one feels a disconnect always putting their internal customers (Sales and Marketing) at odds with Customer Service, makes for a stressful work environment where long term talent retention is difficult at best.

Consistency among business groups vary greatly in application of policy. Appreciation of contribution long term is not acknowledged or rewarded and consistency of accountability is lacking.

    Advice to Management

Accelerate growth and innovation strategies to allow greater entrepreneurial enterprises down to the department levels. Be willing to invest in capital and talent to execute successfully out of the gate capitalizing on early market analysis and trends. See Cons…
