    I have been working at Shaw's part-time

    Pros

The people you work with are typically fun nice people. This company hires autistic people as well as others with some mental disabilities as baggers (nothing too serious but somehting they can get paid for), so be prepared to work with them and be their friends too. The hours are nice, but shifts are in awkward chunks with barely any break time (seriously, I work 6 hour shifts and get a 15 minute break to eat...so buy in bulk and stash in the fridge for the week)

    Cons

At the interview I was told they promote from within however, I watched a high schooler get hired directly without any experience in teh company as one of my supervisors. Not cool. Also, my branch is awful at posting schedules. It's very likely it posts at 9 pm the night before your 7 am shift starts, giving you almost no warning.

    Advice to Management

Better pay, honestly we're one of the lowest paying supermarkets from my research.

    I worked at Shaw's part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Flexible scheduling. Worked around school activities, vacations, graduations, etc.

    Cons

Schedules sometimes weren't posted in time and hours would have to be checked at the last minute.

    Advice to Management

You should focus more on employees and less on numbers.

I have been working at Shaw's full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I love the amount of travel time and if we forgot to punch in or out for any reason we were allowed to do edits. They also got rid of all the bad management and tried to turn themselves around.

    Cons

I do not like the fact that they gave Pollo shirts that had loss prevention written on them.It kinda defeated the purpose of being" undercover". When they got rid of the bad management it was to late most of the damages were already done.

    Advice to Management

    Get rid of the Pollo's

    I worked at Shaw's part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Coworkers were some of the best people I've ever worked with, truly enjoyed being around them. Scheduling was very flexible and accommodating. Enjoyed the interaction with the customers.

    Cons

Pay is not exceptionally high, but above minimum wage. Upper management seemed to have a bit of a superiority complex.

    Advice to Management

I would recommend that all levels of management remember that it is the floor staff/associates that interact with the customers, offering advise and suggestions, and that happy, motivated associates lead to happy customers.

    I worked at Shaw's part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

It wasn't the worst job that I ever had. My coworkers and the managers were nice enough, the pay wasn't terrible, and the majority of the customers were polite. Once in a while you'll deal with someone rude or a downright creep, but you'll have that with any customer service job. As for the pace, it ebbs and flows. During meal times there's a big rush of customers getting last minute items, and they tend to peter out over the next couple of hours until the store is almost dead. Then as the next mealtime approaches, it rises again. In short, expect about an hour of excitement, gradually slowing down over the next hour, then 2-3 of silence.

    Cons

My experience (not everyone may have had it) was that I was often called in only 3-9 hours a week, and was often sent home early because of a dead store.

    Advice to Management

To be more mindful of the mentioned customer patterns. It seemed like on most of my shifts, I really wasn't needed there at all. 3-4 registers for a dead store seems a bit much.

I have been working at Shaw's part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Coworkers are very knowledgeable of their own departments, respectful, and very helpful. Job policies, procedures, and expectations are clear and efficiently communicated to employees. Environment is safe, welcoming, and supportive.

    Cons

Employee discount has decreased over the years. The financial state of the company over the past few years has prevented raises, upward mobility, and transfers for employees who relocate. Layoffs have left some stores short staffed and although employees are getting more hours, scheduling is less flexible. Customer complaints about pricing and questioning company's longevity make customer interactions sometimes unpleasant.

    Advice to Management

Offer positive feedback more often; store management's interactions with part time employees can sometimes feel intimidating.

    Pros

Good place for High School Students and College Students
    Possible Career options
    Scholarships available college students
    Builds Character

    Cons

I had several bosses which is always quite a tiresome situation (see: Office Space)
I felt they constantly degraded by those bosses and as a result assumed a kind of depressed state while at work

    Advice to Management

relax, I'm doing what you asked. harassing me wastes double time
