I worked at Shawnee Mission Medical Center part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good company and management. On site childcare.

    Cons

Information Associates aren't able to access childcare in some departments due to shift start times

    Advice to Management

Look in to changing hours of childcare or IA's.

I worked at Shawnee Mission Medical Center part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Co-workers are nice and the contact with the patients is uplifting.

    Cons

The patient access division should have better management. There is inconsistent training and the expectations of the job is not communicated well during the interview process. You are setup for failure.

    Advice to Management

You should make it your goal to help your weakest link succeed...not throw new hires into the deep end of the pool and say "sink or swim." That mentality is not fair and you're losing really good people.

I have been working at Shawnee Mission Medical Center part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I’ve worked at SMMC for well over a year now and that’s still considered a baby. Most people have worked there for years and still say they love where they work. I never dread going to work. Best place I’ve ever worked.

    Cons

Not as high pay as it could be for the entry or mid level jobs. Working in lab doesn’t get much recognition or understanding.

I worked at Shawnee Mission Medical Center (More than a year)

    Pros

    Decent pay for beginning CNA

    Cons

Some of the worst people I have ever encountered from Nurses to Nurse Managers to Physicians.

    Advice to Management

Take a course on how to be a decent human being.

I worked at Shawnee Mission Medical Center full-time

    Pros

There is ample parking which is nice

    Cons

    Complaints go unnoticed
    Suggestions are not appreciated
    Small raises that are annual
The lazy staff members are the ones who get the most praise
    No room for growth

    Advice to Management

Please come out of your office and help your employees. Also get to know your staff. Praising the lazy ones does not encourage the hard working staff to stay.

    Pros

I loved working at Shawnee Mission Health. The leadership is accessible, it is faith based and the medical staff and nurses are wonderful. They truly care about their patients and families.

    Cons

Not a lot of opportunity to be promoted.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you are doing but add a leadership progression program so you do not lose great talent due to no advancement opportunities.

    Pros

It is a very clean hospital with excellent physicians and support staff. I get the opportunity to work OT, which I like, others choose not to. It is a very busy hospital, I have never felt insecure about my employment status. Compensation is competitive with other area hospitals.

    Cons

Leadership is in Orlando, FL. There have been several days where the entire staff is overwelmed do to over schedualing and under staffing/resources. This, I feel, affects the way we care for patients in a negative way. Benefits have decreased and seem to be on the low end with area hospitals.

    Advice to Management

Give us more staff and room to take better care of patients.
