I have been working at Shea Homes full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Great technology and great CEO.

    Cons

The people are very cliquey and it's blatant favoritism. Also, terrible office environment. Very small cubes and white walls. Can feel like an insane asylum.

    Advice to Management

Get back to task focus and less "hours in the office" focus.

I have been working at Shea Homes full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

CULTURE - The Shea Homes culture is AMAZING, and it is lived out at every level of management. Personal Development is a huge part of the culture here. I have always felt that the management team truly cares about my development as a professional and an individual. You can go as far as YOU want to go with this company. The corporate vision and mission statement are definitely more than words here. This is a company that truly wants to impact people's lives for the better (both internally and externally).

    Cons

The home building industry inherently has a lot of challenges. You have to be flexible enough to change with the demands of the market and deal with the ups and downs of the construction labor force. As a result, it can feel as though directions are ever changing, and we don't always function like a well-oiled machine. Processes are sometimes overlooked which only leads to errors and re-work. Having said that, I believe that the cons here are felt even more with other companies. Shea Homes is always looking to understand where they have room to grow, and they make an honest effort to achieve that growth.

    Advice to Management

Continue to be sincere in your endeavor to enhance the lives of your employees and your members. Thank you for the opportunity to grow with you.

I worked at Shea Homes full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Decent pay, Hours were ok once we were made hourly (no OT ) benefits package is nice but pricey . Close to home

    Cons

Before we were made hourly end of year was horrific long hours in the dark trying to prep homes. Management seriously stop looking for a piece of paper plenty of qualified people to promote with tons of experience but the degree is all that matters to them. Don't have an opinion and share it even if you have ideas for resolution as well Management knows best. Atmosphere is directly affected by all of Managements for choices. Stop taking test and look at the people hire. They all cant be yes people. You have to have a balance which they don't. You say no or have opinions forget it you will go no where. HR what HR they direct you to Management which then tells the whole issue resulting in a poor working environment.

    Advice to Management

Listen to what has been said in your exit interviews. Re-evaluate your current Management team seriously look at the mass exits that happen with Management changes. You have managers that hire to their personality not to what a company needs or wants. Management should have a backbone to their homeowners stop giving the farm away. Have some confidence in your employees. After all you literally hand picked them.
