I have been working at Shell full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Strong emphasis on safety in all parts of the organization. There is also transparency for any decisions impacting employees, and it is great to take advantage of Friday's off.

    Cons

There is a strong emphasis on consensus and it takes an act of congress to get anything done which can create a lack of accountability.

    Pros

Good pay / benefits. Focus on safety.

    Cons

Decision to off-shore many finance jobs. Losing much of the experienced talent pipeline, replacing with off-shore service centers and recent MBA graduates to reduce costs. This has been the situation long before the recent issues due to oil price drops.

I worked at Shell full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Good pay, good benefits both above average. Health Vision and Dental insurance. Works at diversity inclusion. In the past was good at building a good talent pipeline.

    Cons

Company continues to offshore jobs. At some point you will lose your long term competitive advantage in the effort to boost your Executives bonuses. Of course by that time they will have long since moved on with their golden parachutes.

    Advice to Management

At some point in the future you will experience the backlash of the US footprint if the continued reduction of workforce through offshoring. One day the American people will wake up and put an end to the corporate welfare being handed out to companies that continuously elect to damage the economy in an effort to pad the CEO's wallet.

I worked at Shell as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

G2X was a growing company when I interviewed with them, they had yet to build their first gas-to-gasoline plant. I worked with the finance team who were trying to get investors and lenders on board. This involved updating their financial models and powerpoints, making sure everything ticked and tied. The culture is nice, it's a small place, and everyone knows each other.

    Cons

I didn't get to write new financial models, only worked on existing ones. Same with the informational memos and powerpoints. However, the team did their best to get me involved in the process, and I often sat in on calls with lenders and investors to hear how the deals went down, which was really cool.

    Pros

    Solid Work/Life Balance
    Easy job
    Decent learning experience

    Cons

Finance viewed as a support role
    No real modelling
    Too much operational work
    Interns not managed well

I have been working at Shell full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great pay and great people. A lot of focus on development and movement within/across Shell companies, functions and ventures.

Strong "Shell" culture. Most facilities (business support) are equipped with multiple cafeterias, starbucks, gyms, banks, medical offices, etc. A very good place to work, and team/individual performance is recognize and rewarded

    Cons

Limited location availability. Company very large so often hard to understand full picture.

    Advice to Management

    Simplify

    Pros

    Great real life work experience

Very nice people! everyone willing to meet and give career advise
9/80 time off schedule allows every other friday off! Best thing ever!!

    Cons

Sit at your desk all day besides the occasional meeting.
Very low amounts of interaction with others.

    Advice to Management

Very distant from the lower workers.

    Pros

great benefits and networks for employees

Could do better in company communications. Senior leaders change over frequently. open resourcing is quite elaborate but if you are not the chosen one it takes and act of congress to land a new position

    Advice to Management

    none

I have been working at Shell as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

I love working with people at Shell. They are really smart, friendly and supportive. They treated me with respect. My supervisor and mentor are such great people. I learned lots of things after my internship. Besides, I had an opportunity to work on a really interesting project.

    Cons

ETRAY test was super difficult and I don't think that's a good way to test interns' capacity.
