I worked at Shenandoah University full-time

    Pros

Children get to attend for free.

    Cons

Directors get away with making promises that they are not going to keep. If you talk to HR about it your fired.

    Advice to Management

Open your eyes, turn-over is out of control in some departments, do yourself a favor and try to figure out why!

    Pros

Shenandoah University is an amazing place to work. No matter where you look, everyone is incredibly cooperative, helpful, and inspiring. There is a huge sense of family on this campus in all areas. I'm ecstatic to be able to call Shenandoah my home.

    Cons

I can't think of any cons.

    Positive Outlook

I have been working at Shenandoah University part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The campus is beautiful, the people are beautiful, working here is just an all around great experience.

    Cons

The campus is very small, so if you're looking for a big-city experience, this isn't it.

    Advice to Management

The management is actually pretty fair here. They don't really have anything to improve on.

SU is a great place to work - extremely community-oriented; friendly work environment.

    Cons

I have been working at Shenandoah University full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Students are very motivated and involved in their community. Administration appears to really care about them on the surface. Campus is growing and there have been a lot of beautification efforts.

    Cons

Shared governance is an illusion. Very heavy handed management from the top down. Very little interest in hearing criticism from the faculty. Health insurance costs are outrageous compared to peer institutions. Pay is very low compared to peer institutions. Budgets are tight or non-existent. Recruiting emphasizes quantity over quality. Seems like every year working conditions and morale get worse. Very little support for faculty development.

    Advice to Management

Pay more attention to faculty development than grounds improvement. Increase faculty salaries and reduce health insurance costs. Put more control in the hands of the faculty.

    Disapproves of CEO

I worked at Shenandoah University full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Benefits were great. That's really the only complement I have.

    Cons

Higher ups did not take safety complaints seriously. They also did not want to hear anything negative about supervisors who had been there forever even if they were breaking university rules and regs.

    Advice to Management

Don't brush off complaints as disgruntled employees complaining.

I worked at Shenandoah University full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Steady work with professionals, some training, pleasant environment.

    Cons

No work- life balance. Expected to work through lunch and late most days. Cold distant management that wouldn't listen to suggestions for improvement.

    Advice to Management

Teamwork and praise is more productive and successful than criticism and aloofness.
