    Pros

Working at Sheppard Pratt has been one of the best experiences of my life. I was able to get trained on every unit and learn so much during my time there. This organization is passionate about mental health. A lot of people will complain about how employees are treated but I felt beyond appreciated there.

    Cons

The pay isn't great, you have to be in it because you love it, not just to get a paycheck- although you do get a Christmas bonus which I have yet to find with any other company. If you're not careful in picking up overtime you can easily burn out.

    Pros

Mission is great, but I think a lot of employees don't live and breathe the mission like they should. I think Dr. Trivedi's vision for the organization is inspiring and exciting to be apart of.

    Cons

Culture and accountability comes from the top down. People see the things that certain people in senior management get away with everyday. Why would you want to set that kind of example to everyone else? Nothing will ever change if that doesn't change. Turnover will continue to be horrendous and the culture will continue to be extremely negative because you're showing everyone that bullying is acceptable. Please hold EVERYONE accountable for they way they treat others (not just the ones at the bottom of the totem pole).

I have been working at Sheppard Pratt Health System part-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Being able to make a positive impact with patients

    Cons

Unfair, bullying and very disrespectful management with upper management and HR doing nothing about it (my manager has yelled at me over the most simple suggestions or benign requests). Only fair pay with no room for advancement. It is at times a very dangerous work environment. Rotating shifts with no control over your schedule--flexible 12 hour shifts are not offered. Mandating is a constant and if you refuse you will be terminated.

    Advice to Management

Survey and really listen to your front-line staff (RN's, MHW's, Unit Clerks and S.W.'s). Eliminate ineffective middle management who are ruining this hospital. Increase pay and hire more milieu managers. Allow self scheduling on all the units with the option for 12 hour shifts.

I have been working at Sheppard Pratt Health System full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Smaller caseloads (20-25 contact hours), big budget for continuing education credit, decent budget for materials, producing quality work good team collaboration. Great kids, staff and management at my school.

    Cons

difficulty making up sessions/no coverage, no license or CCC reimbursement, very low functioning students (I work in autism program)- so even with the small caseload it can be overwhelming- lots of paperwork, many reports, etc, no pay raise/step-salary in place. SPHS treats all schools and hospitals the same.

    Advice to Management

Management should allow more flexibility to employees such as therapists who have a set amount of work to get done no matter whether they take days off. Jobs also need more defined descriptions- the demands (paperwork, aac, documentation, etc) have increased enormously just in the 5 years I have been here. Overall SPHS really needs to differentiate their business and have separate policies and procedures for schools and hospitals. Separate servers, and more structure within the schools would help. Because the system is so big it often takes way too long to fix small problems- and the internet and server are always having problems.
